Job description

This position is assigned to MWR, Community Recreation Division, and will be referred to as Aquatics.

Initial Application Deadline

The initial cut-off date for this vacancy announcement is 05/12/2025. Additional applications will be referred as vacancies occur.

Duties
  1. Performs lifeguarding duties and limited management functions by directing the operation of the pool and the work of assigned lifeguards.
  2. Ensures the safe operation of the pool, its filtration system, water balance, pool chemistry, and performs water tests.
  3. Ensures that safety rules are followed and is responsible for teaching aquatic swimming and water survival training.
  4. Keeps accurate records and maintains adequate supplies.
Requirements
  1. Direct Deposit and Social Security Card are required.
  2. Meet qualification, eligibility, and background requirements for this position.
  3. Satisfactorily complete an employment verification (E-Verify) check.
  4. In case of exposure to infectious disease, the incumbent is required to obtain the Hepatitis B vaccination series within a 24-hour period.
  5. Follow environmental safeguards and wear personal protective equipment as required.
  6. May be assigned to irregular duties or for special recreational events as needed.
  7. Able to obtain an American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor OR American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification or nationally recognized equivalent within 6 months of appointment.
  8. May be subject to additional background checks if required to have regular and recurring contact with children.
  9. Complete required training within the prescribed time frame and demonstrate on-the-job competence.
  10. Successfully complete all required background checks, including a health screening.
Qualifications

Possess (or in the process of obtaining) and maintain the following certificates:

  • American Red Cross "Lifeguard" certification or nationally recognized equivalent (e.g., Ellis & Associates Lifeguard Certification).
  • American Red Cross "Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation for the Professional Rescuer" (CPR-Pro) certification or nationally recognized equivalent (e.g., Ellis & Associates CPR Certification).
