Job summary

Navy Region Mid-Atlantic Fleet and Family Readiness (FFR) at Naval Station Norfolk is seeking staff to support fitness, sports, and aquatic facilities. You will help plan and run activities, assist patrons, and ensure safety and order across multiple facilities.

Responsibilities include opening/closing facilities, coordinating event officials, maintaining cleanliness, and managing equipment and reservations while delivering excellent customer service to military personnel and families.

Summary

Position is assigned to the NAF Fitness/Sports/Fleet Readiness; Commander, Navy Installations Command (CNIC) at Naval Station Norfolk in Norfolk, VA. The purpose of this position is to provide a variety of support duties to operate fitness, sports, or aquatic facilities as needed. This position is located a Fitness and Sports Naval Station Norfolk.

Major Duties And Responsibilities

Assist the Fitness Director to plan, arrange and execute activities for military, civilians and family members in the facilities assigned. Incumbent may explain and assist patrons in the use of facilities, ensuring safe and proper handling of facilities and sports equipment.

Assures officials for sporting events are scheduled and available on time. Is responsible for and assists in maintaining cleanliness of facilities prior to, during, and after use.

Assists in the opening and closing of facilities ensuring building security before closing at the end of the day.

Responsible to review scheduled events to ensure facilities are prepared prior to scheduled start times.

Checks ID cards to ensure that only authorized patrons are utilizing facilities assigned. May answer telephone and personal questions providing excellent customer service skills.

Circulates among the patrons to assist in basic use of equipment and to maintain good order and discipline all times. Cleans and maintains facilities performing janitorial services to ensure interior spaces are clean at all times.

Sweeps, mops, dusts, and cleans workout rooms, mirrors, bathrooms and locker areas as necessary.

Accounts for individual and unit issue of sports equipment by proper issue and turn-in procedures. Maintains and updates reservation schedules for facilities and sports fields to prevent schedule conflicts.

Prepares and updates records/tables on ongoing intramural sports activities.

Prepares, distributes, and posts publicity announcements of sports events and programs.

Inventories sports equipment and follow-ups on discrepancies.

Preforms other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Must pass all applicable records and background check.
• Must successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check. Any discrepancies must be resolved as a condition of employment.
• Starting May 7, 2025, non-affiliated individuals requesting access will need a REAL ID-compliant driver's license or another acceptable form of identification to access CNRMA Installations. (review required documents section for more information.)
• Must possess and maintain a current driver's license.

Qualifications

A qualified candidate must possess:

• A minimum one year of work experience which involved dealing with the general public and general knowledge of recreational fitness, sports, or aquatic programs.
• Skill in operation of equipment to line fields or set up for intramural sporting events.
• Must be a mature individual who can exercise control over a large group of people to ensure good order and discipline as necessary.
• Must be skilled in customer service.
