Job summary

The City of Rowlett is seeking staff to support athletics, recreation programs and special events in the Parks and Recreation Department. This role may receive assignments from multiple supervisors and requires availability on weekdays, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Duties include monitoring facilities, instructing program participants, and assisting with program operations, safety, and event support. Regular attendance and professional conduct are essential.

This position serves as support to athletics, recreation programs and special events. Based on the assignment, this position may receive work assignments from Parks and Recreation Programmer, Athletics and Aquatics Supervisor, Special Event and Marketing Coordinator, Recreation Supervisor or Recreation Manager. Must be able to work weekdays, weekends and holidays as needed, hours of operation may vary. Performs related duties as required.

Monitors and cleans Parks and Recreation Department facilities during scheduled programs. Provides instruction to patrons at Recreation programs. Provides excellent customer service by responding to customers' questions and needs. Assists with various recreation program duties including opening, closing and operation of programs, leagues, tournaments or special events. Ensures the safety of all spectators and participants in programs and facilities and keeps supervisor informed regarding safety related issues. Works special events as assigned. This position serves as support to athletics, recreation programs, special events and the parks division as needed. Based on the assignment, this position may receive work assignments from Parks and Recreation Programmer, Athletics and Aquatics Supervisor, Special Event and Marketing Coordinator, Community Centre Supervisor, Recreation Manager or Parks Manager. Performs related duties as required. Responsible for regular attendance and reporting to work on time.

Performs other duties as assigned. Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential function of this position, as is the ability to create and maintain professional, harmonious working relationships with others.

No minimum education is required. Depending on the assignment, some knowledge of general sports rules (basketball, softball, volleyball and football) and/or ability to operate a cash register, scoreboard or computer may be required or preferred.

Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to perform cash handling duties, accurately count money and make change. Ability to use a calculator and do basic math functions. Must be able to demonstrate excellent customer service skills. Must have good written and oral communication skills and be able to deal effectively with the public. Ability to use the computer and applicable computer programs. Ability to work outdoors as required.

Valid driver's license required. Must have and maintain a good driving record in accordance with the driving standards as established by the City of Rowlett. Must report all traffic citations to his/her departmental Director or his/her designee within two working days of receipt.

Must be able to work evenings, weekends and holidays depending on scheduled programs. Working hours will vary between five (5) to twenty hours (20) per week. Certification in First Aid, CPR, Automated External Defibrillator or completion of certification within six months of employment.

Primarily works in an air-conditioned environment. Walking, standing, reaching is part of the physical demands of this position. Ability to carry 25 pounds.
