Job summary

The City of Hartford, Department of Sports and Recreation, is seeking a part-time employee to plan, organize, and supervise recreational activities while officiating sports and maintaining safety and discipline. Weekend availability is required as the recreation centers operate during those times.

Open to all qualified applicants who meet the age and experience requirements, with at least 6 months in a related field. Benefits include health and life insurance, retirement options, and paid leave.

Qualifications

• Applicants must be sixteen (16) years of age or older at the time of hire and a minimum of six (6) months of experience playing in a recreational or team sport, coaching or college training in the field of physical education, recreation or a related field.
• Desirable: ability to instruct/coach multiple sports and arts activities; may include certification in First Aid, CPR or public service driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Assist, direct, and supervise recreational and community activities.
• Officiate team sports and enforce rules and regulations; maintain discipline.
• Maintain safety equipment, provide basic first aid, and keep simple records.
• Instruct and lead arts and crafts activities; prepare reports and maintain play environments.
• Be available for hours of operation including weekends.
