The ideal candidate will demonstrate empathy and responsibility for those struggling with substance use disorders. Prior experience in a residential setting is preferred.

Recovery Technician

Hours: Full-time, Regular Part-time, and Per Diem options available.

Schedule: Combination of Evening, Overnight, Weekend and Holiday shifts.

Overview

Recovery Technicians positively influence clients in our recovery programs and make a real difference in their recovery journey. The key component of this position is milieu management, ensuring safety, security and supervision of clients during overnights, weekends and holidays. Pro‑social engagement and positive role modeling are key components. The ideal candidate demonstrates responsibility and empathy for those struggling with substance use disorder. Qualifications
  • Minimum of High School Diploma or GED.
  • Prior experience working in a residential setting preferred.
  • Previous experience as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Recovery Coach, Behavioral Health Professional (BHP) or Personal Support Specialist (PSS) desirable.
  • Genuine desire to support individuals receiving residential treatment for Substance Use Disorder.
Key Duties
  • Monitor the program during assigned shifts, assess safety needs of residents and implement agency procedures during crises or emergencies.
  • Act as a positive role model, providing guidance and support during non‑treatment hours.
  • Coordinate safety, security and supervision of clients and facility outside treatment hours.
  • Implement agency safety policies during emergencies, contact on‑call supervisor or Program Director.
  • Interact with clients demonstrating emotional intelligence and assist with problem solving in daily living activities.
  • Answer program business telephone in accordance with federal and state confidentiality laws.
  • Protect client confidentiality in accordance with 42 CFR Part 2 and agency policies.
  • Report promptly to work at assigned times.
  • Provide holiday, weekend, evening and overnight coverage as scheduled.
  • Attend and actively participate in supervision sessions.
  • Manage medication distribution in accordance with policies, record infraction logs, conduct safety checklists, fire drills, collect observed drug screens, transport clients to appointments.
Performance Factors
  • Within one month: basic understanding of substance abuse and/or co‑occurring disorders (NADAC training).
  • Within one month: basic understanding of a trauma‑informed environment (NAADAC training).
  • Within one month: working knowledge of Motivational Interviewing, actively practicing.
  • Desire and ability to relate maturely and professionally with those in recovery.
  • Complete CPR and Basic First Aid certification within 30 days of hire.
  • Complete 40 hours of orientation training required by State Licensing and MaineCare before independent work.

This position is non‑exempt under the Fair Labor and Standards Act.
