Job summary

Thrive Now Recovery Center in Iowa City seeks a Behavioral Health Technician – Recovery Support Specialist to join a compassionate multidisciplinary team. The role focuses on direct patient support, maintaining a safe, structured environment, and coordinating recovery activities during on-site full-time shifts.

You will monitor wellbeing, document observations, transport patients as needed, and collaborate with nursing and clinical staff to support continuity of care.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• Valid drivers license and ability to meet company driving requirements.
• CPR/First Aid certification or able to obtain within 30 days of hire.
• Peer Recovery Specialist credential strongly preferred.
• Bachelor's degree in human services/behavioral health/psychology/social work or related field.
• 1+ years of experience in behavioral health/addiction treatment/human services.
• CNA/QMA experience or certification beneficial.
• Knowledge of peer recovery principles and 12-Step programs.
• Lived recovery experience valued where appropriate.

Responsibilities

• Build supportive, professional relationships with patients while maintaining therapeutic boundaries.
• Assist patients with daily routines, activities, and recovery programming.
• Welcome and orient new patients to the facility and program expectations.
• Encourage patient participation in treatment and recovery activities.
• Observe patient behaviors and communicate observations to the treatment team.
• Facilitate approved recovery, psychoeducational, or skills-based groups as assigned.
• Provide calm, compassionate support during emotional distress or crisis.

Education

Peer Recovery Specialist credential or related credential
