Job summary

NORTH SUFFOLK COMMUNITY SERVICES INC is seeking a Recovery Coach for the Somerville Homeless Coalition in Somerville, MA. This full-time position (36 hours/week) leverages lived recovery experience to provide peer-supported care alongside the Recovery Support Services team.

You will work some nights and weekends, developing individualized wellness and recovery plans, engaging with community stakeholders, and helping embed peer support across care settings.

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor's, GED or high school diploma with work experience with adults diagnosed with substance use and/or dependency or a related field
• Experience: Knowledge and experience of addiction treatment services, recovery coaching, and related human services; two years of sustained recovery
• Skills: Certified Addictions Recovery Coach (CARC) certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide ongoing, personalized recovery coaching focusing on strengths, goal-setting, skill-building, and relapse prevention.
• Assist with brief interventions to engage individuals with substance use disorder.
• Promote a recovery-oriented environment and embed peer support across levels of care.
• Foster communication with collateral contacts (probation officers, therapists, family, sponsors) with releases.
• Contribute to peer-led educational services, outreach, and community engagement.

Recovery Coach - Somerville Homeless Coalition

Salary Range: $56,340.00 To $67,272.00 Annually

North Suffolk is looking for a Recovery Coach to join our Recovery Support Services team! The Recovery Coach leverages lived experience with substance use or addiction to provide unique peer-assisted support that complements traditional clinical training. Reporting to the Director of Recovery, this fully integrated team member delivers essential services to the Somerville community through the Somerville Homeless Coalition. Additionally, the Recovery Coach serves as an agency-wide consultant, advocating for a participant-centered culture that respects, understands, and integrates recoverees’ perspectives into all systems of care.

This position requires you to work some nights and weekends as needed. Full-Time; 36 hours per week.

What you’ll do:

• Provide ongoing, personalized recovery coaching that focuses on strengths, goal-setting, skill-building, and relapse prevention. Support recoverees in developing and implementing individualized wellness and recovery plans, reviewing regularly, and incorporating peer-driven techniques and motivational strategies.
• Assist Somerville Homeless Coalition and community stakeholders with brief interventions to engage individuals presenting with substance use disorder.
• Promote a recovery-oriented environment emphasizing recoveree empowerment, cultural competency, and recoveree-driven recovery pathways. Support organizational efforts to embed peer support into all levels of care.
• Foster effective communication with collateral contacts such as probation officers, therapists, family members, and sponsors (with valid release of information). Advocate for the recoveree’s needs within the treatment and service continuum.
• Contribute to the development of peer-led educational services, outreach efforts, and recovery community engagement. Participate in staff meetings, supervision, and ongoing training to stay current with best practices.
• Work a flexible schedule to meet the needs of recoverees and program.
• Attend all required trainings within prescribed timelines.
• All other duties as assigned.

What you’ll need:

• Education:Bachelors,GED or High School Diploma with work experience with adults diagnosed with substance use and/or dependency OR a Bachelor’s degree in a related field
• Experience: Knowledge and experience of the addiction treatment service system, recovery coaching and other related human services, Two years of sustained recovery.
• Skills:Certified Addictions Recovery Coach (CARC) certification preferred.
