Job summary

Equip is seeking a Recovery Coach to support patients as part of a multidisciplinary team. The role focuses on ensuring adherence to care plans, addressing barriers, and personalizing Equip’s programming to individual needs.

You will share lived experience to help current patients in recovery, provide sessions, and maintain engagement through proactive outreach and thoughtful problem-solving. This is a remote, full-time position with strong benefits and flexibility.

Qualifications

  • Lived experience with eating disorder recovery and ability to identify as being in a solid space of recovery.
  • 2+ years of experience working directly with patients in a setting that utilizes protocolized care – coaching, case management, mentorship, social work, or milieu therapy.
  • Proven comfort working within structured care models or evidence-based protocols and ability to balance protocols with personalization.
  • Proven accountability for patient care plans and meeting clinical milestones.

Responsibilities

  • Provide skills-based individual and group sessions to patients and caregivers in treatment at Equip.
  • Implement motivational strategies to engage with care plans and monitor adherence.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary treatment team huddles to support patient progress.

  • Maintain an availability calendar for scheduling appointments and proactive outreach to ensure engagement.

  • Build trust with patients and document interactions in compliance with Equip policies.
  • Attend internal meetings and ongoing training as assigned.

About the Role

The Recovery Coach is an integral member of a patient’s multidisciplinary care team. The role of the Recovery Coach is to ensure patients successfully integrate into Equip treatment by adhering to their care plans and fully engaging in treatment. This goal is achieved through proactively identifying and addressing barriers to treatment, identifying opportunities to personalize Equip’s programming to address patient needs, and providing key skills and tools for recovery. The Recovery Coach is accountable for balancing patient engagement in treatment and adherence to the care plan with patient satisfaction. The Recovery Coach is comfortable with, and passionate about, sharing their lived experience with eating disorder recovery with individuals currently in the process of treatment and recovery. The Recovery Coach is motivated by the ultimate goal of providing patients with access to the tools and services they need to achieve meaningful, lasting recovery.

Responsibilities
  • Provide skills-based individual and group sessions to patients and caregivers in treatment at Equip.

  • Implement motivational strategies with patients and caregivers to engage with their care plans, including monitoring adherence to care plans and completion of program elements.

  • Participate in multidisciplinary treatment team huddles to support patient progress in treatment.

  • Actively listen and guide patients and caregivers to anticipate challenges and engage in coping-ahead strategies.

  • Maintain an availability calendar allowing patients and caregivers to schedule appointments.

  • Conduct proactive outreach (phone calls/messaging), missed appointment recovery, reminders, tracking, and support to ensure full engagement with the care plan.

  • Engage in problem-solving to ensure care plan adherence, including identifying and providing tangible solutions to roadblocks to treatment adherence.

  • Ensure personalization of care plans by making program recommendations and coordinating services to ensure patient needs are met - examples include, but are not limited to, booking additional care team member sessions and registering for groups; providing meal support sessions; and referring personalized resources to support the patient and their supports (for adult patients only, if applicable).

  • Build a relationship of respect and trust with patients.

  • Complete timely documentation of caregiver and patient interactions in compliance with Equip policies.

  • Attend and participate in internal meetings as well as initial and ongoing training as assigned.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Lived experience with eating disorder recovery with ability to identify as being in a solid space of recovery.

  • 2+ years of experience working directly with patients in a setting that utilizes protocolized care – including, but not limited to, coaching, case management, mentorship, social work, or milieu therapy.

    • Proven comfort working within structured care models or evidence-based protocols (e.g., following specific clinical guidelines, behavior change frameworks, or care plans).

    • Proven ability to balance structured protocols with personalization, meeting patients where they are while keeping them on track with their care goals.

  • A proven track record of taking accountability for patient care plans, using evidence-based frameworks to keep patients on track and meet clinical milestones.

  • Experience guiding patients and families in achievement of treatment goals while identifying barriers and problem-solving to alleviate.

  • Ability to connect with a range of diverse people with varying lived experiences.

  • Passion for evidence-based care and ability to learn, practice, and develop new coaching skills.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to build effective, professional, and collaborative relationships both internally and externally.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills with a proven track record of meeting goals.

  • Strong attention to detail.

  • Comfortable working with and learning new technologies.

  • Comfortable working remotely (including the requirement to be on camera).

  • Comfortable with ambiguity and ability to think critically to quickly and accurately work through challenges in a fast-paced, fluid environment.

  • Ability to provide 33 hours a week of direct patient care, including new patients and follow-up sessions.

  • Ability to commit to working two evenings until 8pm of your choice per week.

Working Hours
  • Ability to provide 33 hours a week of availability for direct patient care, including groups, new patients and follow-up sessions.

  • Ability to commit to working until 8pm two evenings per week (you choose which evenings).

  • Ability to commit to a minimum of 20 hours of direct patient care after 2pm in the respective patient care time zone throughout the week.

  • Ability to attend mandatory meetings (i.e Supervision, Treatment Huddles, Labs/All Hands, etc.).

Compensation & Benefits Package
Compensation:
  • Earning Potential Range: $54,000 to $65,000 Base Pay + 15% Annual Performance-Based Bonus Potential

Other Benefits
Student Loan Repayment:
  • $500/quarter for employees under a year of tenure.

  • $1,000/quarter for employees over a year of tenure.

Continuing Education:
  • Robust training in evidence-based treatments for eating disorders, including Family-Based Treatment, Enhanced Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for ARFID. Comparable training workshops and supervision in these modalities are valued over at $3,000 per training.

  • For therapists and medical providers, unlimited online courses through NetCE.

  • Up to $1,000/year stipend for continuing education.

Work From Home Additional Perks:
  • $50/month stipend added directly to an employee’s paycheck to cover home internet expenses.

  • Initial work-from-home stipend of up to $500.

Physical Demands

Work is performed 100% from home with no requirement to travel. This is a stationary position that requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards as well as to talk or hear by telephone. Sit or stand as needed.
