Job Description

The Douglas County Court in Omaha, NE is taking applications for part-time Records Clerk/Cashier positions in our Criminal Traffic Division. This is an entry-level clerical position. Work involves performing various clerical functions, including receiving fees/fines and other payments, responding to routine inquiries, filing, data entry, and other general office duties, including routine bookkeeping. Work is performed under the supervision of the Division Manager of the Criminal Traffic Division and is reviewed for accuracy. Previous cash handling experience is preferred. The Criminal Traffic Division has the highest volume of records and is a separate division within Douglas County Court. Records Clerks will assist court attendees by directing them to appropriate windows; some court attendance may be required. Data entry and attention to detail are paramount. Additional details are outlined below.

Job Duties
  • Provides customer service to internal and external customers, including answering phones and greeting visitors, responding to requests for information, and answering routine questions.
  • Performs clerical tasks such as collecting fees, fines, and other payments; receiving, processing, sorting, filing, and distributing correspondence, materials, billings, payments, deliveries, mail, and paperwork.
  • Enters information into court databases or other computerized systems to maintain court records and process court motions.
  • Prepares, records, and maintains information, verifying files for accuracy and making corrections as needed.
  • Performs other similar duties as assigned.

Requirements / Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) or equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications: Ability to speak Spanish is preferred. At least one year of court/law office or cash processing experience.

Other: Successful completion of on-the-job training in JUSTICE (statewide computer system) within six months of hire.
