This is a temporary position that is limited to a maximum of 1000 working hours.

The Prince George's County Board of Elections is currently seeking qualified applicants to fill General Clerk 1 positions, grade G06 within the Administration Division.

About The Position

The incumbents in this position are considered an "Essential Employee," during an election cycle. The election cycle begins three (3) months prior to an election and one (1) month following the election. As an "Essential Employee," you will not be authorized to take leave of absence, and you will be required to work specified weekends and holidays. The incumbent in this position must be able to lift and carry supplies/equipment up to fifty (50) pounds and must have excellent computer, data entry and analytical skills.

About The Agency

The mission of the Prince George's County Board of Elections is to promote voter education, administer an efficient voting process, maintain an accurate voter registration database, and ensure that elected officials are elected in accordance with Federal, State, and County election laws. The Board of Elections is responsible for the supervision of elections, voter registration and record keeping, and the administration of election laws in Prince George's County, in accordance with The Election Law Article of the Annotated Code of Maryland. The Board and the Election Administrator seek to provide voter registration to every County citizen who wants it.

Examples of Work
  • Receives, processes, files and disseminates voter registration applications: absentee ballot applications, and various other registration & election records
  • Removes voters as a result of information obtained from various legally mandated agencies and reviews and edits data preparing it for entry into automated systems
  • Types routine letters, memoranda, reports, etc. using various software applications
  • Greets visitors, answers telephone and e-mail inquiries, screens customer complaints
  • Advises citizens of various provisions of election law. Trains Voter Registration Volunteers
  • Assists in preparation and distribution of Election Day materials, assists with the Chief Judge check-in process, processing absentee ballots and provisional ballots
  • Performs tasks and duties assigned within responsibility level of this class of work

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
  • Meet all training and performance standards and demonstrate proficiency as required by the agency.

  • Be willing and able to serve as an essential employee. Essential employees are expected to report during standard or non-standard hours as operations necessitate, or during emergencies.
  • Be willing to adhere to the nature of the service provided by this agency, all employees are considered essential during an election cycle. The election cycle begins three months prior to an election and continues one month following the election or until the election is certified. As an essential employee you WILL NOT be authorized to take leave during an election cycle. Additionally, you will be required to work specified weekends and holidays.

General Plan Information

The Prince George’s County benefits plan year is from January 1 to December 31.

A spouse (to include a same sex spouse) can be added to the health benefit plans. A marriage certificate and social security number is required to add a spouse.

Children under the age of 26 are eligible for coverage under the health benefit plans. This includes stepchildren and children of the same-sex spouse. A birth certificate(s) and social security number(s) is required to add a child(ren). If you are only adding the stepchildren or child(ren) of a same-sex spouse, you will need to submit a marriage certificate. You will also need to submit the birth certificate of the child(ren) and your spouse must be listed as a parent.

The premiums for health benefits are deducted on a pre-tax basis with the exception of Long-Term Disability, Extra Life Insurance and Voluntary Benefits (Short-Term Disability, Whole Life Insurance, Critical Illness, Accident Insurance, Cancer Indemnity, Hospital Indemnity Protection, Accident Indemnity Plan, Supplemental Dental and Group Legal Services).

New employees must enroll in the County’s health benefit plans within thirty (30) days of the hire date.

The effective date of the health benefits coverage is the beginning of the month following a waiting period of forty-five (45) days from the date of hire.

After enrolling in the County’s benefit plans, employees may only make changes to the plans either during the open enrollment period, which occurs annually (usually each October), and/or during the year, due to a family status change (i.e., marriage, births, divorce and adoption).
