This is a moderately complex clerical position involving the processing of documents in a variety of functions, including the verification of information, arithmetic calculations, and assisting the Public, Landlords, and Tenants in completing forms.
Duties involve the responsibility for a significant aspect of a work process, a single activity, or multiple activities that are comparable in scope and complexity. Work may involve providing training and guidance to new employees and fulfilling lead worker functions for routine clerical operations. Work is subject to periodic changes in operating procedures and requires some adaptability within standard operating procedures; however, detailed supervisory guidance and review is received for new or unusual situations and changes in operating procedures and policies.
Examples of Work Performed
- Operate a telephone with multiple line switching capabilities for incoming, transferring, and place calls as well as providing organization and location information.
- Take payments and prepare a daily deposit and go to the bank when needed.
- Record management – prepare, update, file, retrieve, and purge files, general paper files, logs, and computer files.
- Record filing information to control documents and logs to reflect dispositions, amounts, results, production, time, organization, status, transaction, and other details.
- Process applications, make up packets, and input into the HORIZON system.
- Assist applicants by phone or in person.
- Verify information by phone and mail.
- Assist PH & S8 on applications and placement.
- Work with outside agencies on referrals for additional services.
- Operate office machines such as typewriters, calculators, copiers, and computers, fax and postage machine.
- Back-up person for recertifications, doing the interview, and scheduling when needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation at a level equivalent to that used in writing or adjusting written materials, normally consisting of simple sentence structures, one and two-syllable words, and punctuation marks for words, numbers, and sentences separation.

Experience, Training, And Requirements
Must be a Pennsylvania resident.
Must have a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license.
Must meet the minimum experience and training requirements of:
- Six months as a Clerk Typist I and/or receptionist
- or Completion of a high school business curriculum that included at least one typing course;
- or Any equivalent experience and/or training that provides the knowledge and abilities of working in an office environment.
Supervision
Under the direct supervision of the MCHA Director of Housing Management.
