Job summary

Summer Consultants, Inc. in Raleigh, NC, is seeking a recent graduate or early-career Mechanical Designer with up to three years of experience to join our team.

You will work on renovating and modernizing building systems, with hands-on field experience in surveys, measurements, and documentation. Ideal candidates enjoy working in the field, translating observations into practical design decisions, and collaborating with engineers across disciplines.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Architectural Engineering (HVAC focus) or related field required.
• Interest in HVAC, plumbing, and building systems; willingness to learn field-centric design.
• Willingness to spend meaningful time in the field surveying existing conditions.
• Ability to travel up to 10 nights per year as required.

Responsibilities

• Support mechanical and plumbing design for renovation and existing-building projects.
• Participate in field surveys to observe, investigate, document, and understand existing building conditions and systems.
• Assist with HVAC and plumbing calculations, equipment selection, ductwork and piping layouts, and system design.
• Help translate survey findings and client requirements into practical design solutions.
• Support development of drawings, calculations, reports, specifications, and other project documentation.
• Coordinate with engineers and designers from other disciplines as part of integrated project teams.
• Think about constructability and operation of designs for real-world implementation.
• Pursue EIT certification, if not already completed.
