Job summary

Summer Consultants in McLean, VA seeks a recent graduate or early-career Mechanical Designer to join our McLean team. You will work on renovating and updating building systems, with hands-on field experience and collaboration with experienced engineers.

You will gain exposure to HVAC and plumbing design, site surveys, equipment selection, and design documentation in a federal/institutional context. Hybrid work options apply after six months.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Architectural/Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Must be able to spend meaningful time in the field surveying conditions.
• Willingness to travel up to 10 nights per year or more as required.

Responsibilities

• Support mechanical and plumbing design for renovation and existing-building projects.
• Participate in field surveys to observe and document existing conditions.
• Assist with HVAC and plumbing calculations, layouts, and equipment selection.
• Translate field observations into practical design decisions and project documents.
• Coordinate with engineers and designers from other disciplines on integrated teams.
• Support creation of drawings, calculations, reports, specs, and other documentation.
• Assist in ensuring designs are constructible and operable in real-world conditions.
