Job summary

The Greater Cleveland Food Bank, the largest hunger relief organization in Northeast Ohio, seeks a Warehouse Supervisor to oversee day-to-day receiving, storage, and inventory processes. You will manage staff, ensure accurate receipting from donated, purchased, and government sources, and maintain efficient warehouse operations.

Qualifications include a High School diploma and 5+ years in shipping/receiving with 2+ years in supervision; a college degree is preferred but not required.

SUMMARY

Supervises, directs, and coordinates the day-to-day receipt of items, ensuring accurate receipt, product availability, and accurate storage and replenishment of product in the warehouse. The following duties are performed personally or through subordinate staff.

Requirements

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Ensures, personally and through subordinate staff, that product supplied to the organization is accurately received and stored to promote maximum warehouse space utilization and effective distribution of product.
  • Responsible for receipting of all product received from Donated, Purchased, and Government.
  • Receipting of all Retail product.
  • Receipting of individual donations including food drives.
  • Acts as a backup to the Inventory Manager for receipting product offerings from Feeding America.
  • Coordinates inbound load scheduling and maintains the inbound dock schedule
  • Ensures Quality Assurance procedures for inbound shipments are being followed.
  • Maintain inventory accuracy of incoming receipts, donations, and purchases. Adjusts errors in computation or count.
  • Maintains effective organization and layout of all storage areas, considering storage capacity, item turnover, size, weight, and related factors of items stored. Recommends alternative storage methods that enhance space utilization and order-picking efficiency.
  • Ability to resolve any issues relating to receiving, putaway, and storage of inventory and recommends remedial actions to resolve discrepancies.
  • Participates in and promotes interdepartmental communication and adequate information flow within the Foodbank.
  • Maintains required job knowledge and skills and core professional competencies. Attends and participates in required educational programs and staff meetings.
  • Supervises Warehouse Activity Plan.
  • In the Inventory Manager’s absence, perform cycle counts and make correcting adjustments in the Warehouse Management System, ensuring correct inventory balances.
  • In the absence of the Inventory Manager, act in their capacity.
  • Compiles and submits Federal and State Reports of Inventory transactions in the absence of the Inventory Manager.
  • Ensure Safety practices are being followed within the warehouse facility
  • Works with Inventory Manager to schedule coverage at all GCFB locations as transfer and receiving schedules dictate.
  • Actively support and champion initiatives aimed at driving continuous improvement throughout the organization. May participate in one of the following: LEAN council, a kaizen, 5S campaign or other process improvement efforts to support continuous improvement and improved processes within the food bank.
  • Support inventory transfers between multiple facilities
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities

Supervises Warehouse Dock Associates team. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the receiving department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems; and maintaining a positive work environment. Obtaining certification of power industrial equipment through the food bank during the first 90 days.

Qualifications

High School diploma required; minimum of five years’ experience in shipping/receiving, including 2 years of supervisory experience, is required; or equivalent combination of education and experience. College degree preferred but not mandatory. Powered Industrial Equipment certification preferred. Required commitment to making interactions across different cultures and backgrounds a strength of our organization as demonstrated through work, life or community experience.

Physical Requirements and Environment

The physical requirements for this position include: Ability to remain in a near constant stationary position. Ability to move about inside the office. Ability to operate a computer or other office productivity machinery constantly. Ability to ascend/descend stairs to access workspaces frequently. Ability to position or move body to access filing cabinets or other work equipment constantly. Ability to constantly be able to exchange accurate information, take and give direction and hear safety warnings. Ability to constantly inspect product, judge distance between equipment, shelves and permanent structures. Ability to frequently detect spoiled product or quality of meals. Ability to move office equipment/supplies constantly. Ability to lift 50+ lbs. on a regular basis. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions in addition to spending time in temperature-controlled environments (ranging from 50 to -20 degrees Fahrenheit). The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Salary Range: $55,500 - $64,750 per year, commensurate with experience
