Responsibilities

  • Receive raw material, inspect items, verify packing lists, unload and sort materials.
  • Stage material for production using Work Orders and ensure availability at the workstation.
  • Perform regular cycle counts and communicate discrepancies to the supervisor.
  • Conduct safety checks on devices and equipment and maintain a clean, hazard-free workspace.
  • Perform quality checks using simple gauges and visual inspection; document results where applicable.
  • Maintain organization and use PCs—Word, Excel, Outlook—for reporting and tracking.

Job description

The Material Receiver/Handler is responsible for a variety of tasks including (but not limited to) receiving raw material, product inspection and cycle counts to ensure accurate inventory. The ideal candidate, after training is complete, will be able to use an overhead crane to unload/move products, inspect products for order accuracy and quality, work with departments to assist in achieving production goals, and maintain a workplace that is clean and free from safety hazards.

Essential Functions/Duties

  • Observe, follow and maintain a safe working environment.
  • Receive raw material including tasks involving inspections, verifying packing list, unloading and sorting, and allocating to its appropriate locations.
  • Stage material for production by employing the use of Work Orders to identify area needs and ensuring the appropriate material is at the workstation where/when it is needed.
  • Regular cycle counting to verify stock/inventory levels.Communicate discrepancies to the supervisor if necessary.
  • Perform safety checks to ensure safety devices are on and in working order (guarding and all safety equipment).
  • Perform quality checks and document (where applicable), using simple gages, precision measuring devices and visual inspection.
  • Clean and maintain supplies, tools, equipment, and storage areas to ensure compliance with safety regulations.
  • Ability to maintain positive relations within all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to communicate, present facts and provide recommendations effectively in oral and written form.
  • Strong organizational skills that reflect the ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly with excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively with or without direct supervision as well as independently or in a team environment.
  • Ability to prioritize and work with accuracy under stress.
  • Proficiency in the use of a PC/Laptop including the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and other position relevant software applications.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

Physical/Cognitive Demands

This is largely a physically active role including walking long distances (over uneven surfaces) to/within our production facility, lifting 50lbs or more, and standing for long periods. Position also requires bending, stooping, squatting or standing as necessary. Cognitive abilities required include deductive reasoning, information ordering, oral comprehension, oral expression, problem sensitivity, written comprehension, and written expression.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Evening and weekend work will be required as job duties demand.

Required Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • 1 year of experience in a similar position
