Job summary

Andrews County Youth Recreation Center is seeking a dedicated assistant to support the youth recreation programs and oversee daily operations at the center. You will help supervise games, manage equipment, registrations and records, and assist with field preparation and event coordination to ensure a safe, engaging environment for children and families.

The role involves working with parents, coordinating schedules, and maintaining facilities and equipment.

Qualifications

  • High School Graduate or G.E.D. required.
  • Computer and office skills, knowledge of database and word processor programs.

  • Maintain adequate records of all business transactions and registrations.
  • Registration of students for each sports season.
  • Gathering, sorting and organizing team equipment, information packets and certificates for team distribution.
  • Fulfilling requests for equipment, information and uniform exchanges.
  • Maintaining facilities: cleaning, securing, and enforcing guidelines.
  • Gathers and prepares game statistics and generates report for local newspaper.
  • Maintain physical assets, repair or replace equipment and supplies.
  • Assist students with computer operations and equipment.
  • Maintaining field readiness during the season (except for mowing and watering).
  • Supervise part-time employees.
  • Officiate ball games if needed.

The assistant is responsible for aiding the director in overseeing all aspects of the youth

recreation programs offered by the center. This includes flag football, cheerleading, volleyball, basketball, spring soccer and t-ball / coach pitch. The assistant is also responsible for supervising part-time help, students in game rooms and overseeing youth center facilities. Games offered at the facility include pool ping-pong, foosball, air hockey, computer games and various board games. The assistant is responsible for maintaining good public relations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

It is necessary to be available to work extended hours during sports seasons. Typically our office hours are from 9:00am to 5:00pm. During game days we leave the office early to prepare the playing fields for the evening’s events. We try to schedule games to begin at 5:30pm for the benefit of the public. As a result, the workday may not end until 9:30pm. End of day procedures include waiting until all kids have been picked up, locking up fields and facilities.

The work schedule varies throughout the year depending on which sport or season we are conducting at the time. Each season lasts for approximately four weeks with games being conducted 4 to 5 days a week including Saturdays. The football and cheerleading seasons run concurrently. The other three sport seasons are spaced throughout the year for an average of five months of "game days". The other six months are used to register players, prepare previous seasons equipment and uniforms for the upcoming season, and supervise the daily traffic at the Youth Center.

  • Gathers and prepares game statistics and generates report for local newspaper.
  • Maintain physical assets, repair or replace equipment and supplies. This includes buildings, vehicles, athletic equipment, athletic uniforms, game room equipment, maintenance equipment, and office equipment.
  • Assist students with computer operations and equipment.
  • Maintaining field readiness during the season (except for mowing and watering).
  • Supervise part-time employees.
  • Officiate ball games if needed.

Education and/or Experience

Working Conditions

The position works in an office setting and outdoors with regular exposure to environmental conditions. Health and safety hazards are occasional Fine dexterity, sitting, walking, lifting, carrying, talking, hearing and vision are regularly required. Occasionally, standing, reaching, handling, kneeling, crawling, pushing/pulling, climbing, bending, and crouching are required.

Conclusion:

We deal with many parents, coaches, volunteers, and kids on a daily basis. The assistant must be able to remember names of the people we deal with on a consistent basis and those we deal with only occasionally.

The assistant must be willing to interact with the kids who come through Andrews County Youth Recreation Center. Sometimes it is necessary to go out and play with the kids to build a good rapport and make them feel that they are accepted.

The majority of the youth center assistant's job is organizational in nature. Organizing

team information packets, equipment, team rosters, schedules, etc. Computer and office skills are necessary to do the job in a timely and efficient manner. Knowledge of database and word processing programs is important.
