Job summary

U-Haul seeks a Rebuild Specialist at our Minnesota shop to tear down and rebuild component truck parts for Ford, GM, International and Toyota vehicles. Requires prior repair coursework and the ability to use micrometers, presses, and power tools.

You will diagnose failures, select replacement parts, and work with safety-focused practices in a shop environment. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.

Qualifications

• Must have repair experience and completed repair courses to U-Haul standards.
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and newsletters.
• Strong attention to safety and procedure compliance.
• Ability to determine cause of failure and repair or replace as needed.
• Identify failed parts vs reusable ones to keep repair costs down.

Responsibilities

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: Position requires previous experience and satisfactory completion of repair courses in order to meet U-Haul standards. 1. Must be able to safely operate a motor vehicle 2. Know and understand the functions of the following: transmissions, axles, water pumps, steering pump, alternators, starters, surge brake units, etc. 3. Specialize in the rebuilding of component parts for trucks based on U-Haul standards as instructed 4. Ability to determine cause of failure and to repair or replace as needed 5. Identify failed parts compared to reusable parts in order to keep the cost of repairs to a minimum.TOOLS/SKILLS/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS: • Reading & comprehension of technical manuals & newsletters; explaining technical information; instructing less experienced personnel in performing repair duties • Must use basic hand tools, power tools, micrometer, presses, pullers, cleaning machines, etc. • Position requires close mental and visual attention on work coordinating manual dexterity with mental and visual attention.PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work requires physical exertion such as long periods of standing, walking, recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching or similar activities; lifting minimum 50 lbs assisted or unassisted.WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work involves moderate risks or discomforts which require special safety precautions, e.g., working around moving parts or machines, fumes or irritant chemicals. May be required to use protective clothing, or gear such as masks, goggles, gloves or shields.OTHER: • Participation to enhance or upgrade existing mechanical/technical skills through “JET” program (Joint Efforts in Training) is strongly encouraged. Position requires a valid driver’s license. • Must maintain a good driving record to operate motor vehicles with both types of transmission (automatic or standard). • Adhere to all local vehicular regulations while driving. Position requires the ability to maintain good housekeeping practices in the work area and comply with all safety rules and procedures. It is mandatory that all accidents and injuries be reported immediately to the supervisor. • Must maintain just-in-time production methods, along with total quality control at the source of the work being performed. • Must read company publications such as “U-Haul News”; U-Haul Technical newsletters, and other publications provided by supervisor to understand U-Haul’s Primary Service Objective (to provide better and better product and service to more and more people at a lower and lower cost.) • Perform other related duties as required or assigned including assisting in the recovery of lost or stolen U-Haul property and equipment. • The person assigned to this job is subject to performing any duties relating to serving the customer.
