Job summary

The Yakama Nation Trust Real Estate Services Program seeks Realty Technician II (2) positions within the Department of Natural Resources. This role supports the protection, management and utilization of trust lands and assists in contracting real estate services to Yakama landowners.

Training across sections is provided, with potential assignments based on caseload.

Qualifications

  • High School or GED required.
  • 1 year of documented experience in trust real estate office.
  • Must pass pre-employment drug test.
  • Valid Washington driver license; Yakama Nation Driving permit preferred.
  • Background investigation required by US Bureau of Indian Affairs.

The Yakama Nation Trust Real Estate Services Program has a trust responsibility to protect and improve trust assets of the Yakama Reservation and Yakama Public Domains. The duties performed assist in carrying out the trust responsibility as stated in PL-638 Scope of Work and the Franchise Fee Mission Statement, 25 CFR, 43 CFR and other applicable federal and tribal laws, regulations, resolutions and land use plans. As such, all documents become the property of the United States.

Trust Real Estate Services Program provide assistance, advice, oversight, monitoring and coordination for the protection, management, planning, conservation, development and utilization of trust and restricted Federal Indian-owned lands that include acquisition, disposal, tenure, rights-of-way, permits, compliance, probates and sales. The program facilitates the contract to accept real estate services to Yakama landowners.

The employee contributes to the mission of Trust Real Estate Services by providing program support to all sections of the program. Employee will receive general training in all realty sections and may be assigned to various sections depending on caseload demands.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
  • Knowledge of the appraisal process.
  • Knowledge of general office procedures and principles.
  • Knowledge or familiarity of Yakama Nation traditions, customs and practices.
  • Ability to become familiar with 25 CFR, 43 CFR, ILCA (Indian Land Consolidation Act), Indian Ag Bill, AIPRA (American Indian Probate Reform Act), Yakama Inheritance Act of 1946, etc.
  • Ability to learn to read and locate legal descriptions on a map.
  • Ability to become familiar with tribal programs or enterprises whose functions may be relative to trust real estate matters such as, i.e. Zoning, Department of Natural Resources, Wapato Irrigation Project, YN Land Enterprise, YN Credit, YN Water Code, Bureau of Indian Affairs, Appraisal Services, Office of Hearings and Appeals, Fire District #5, Department of Revenue, YN Tribal Police, YN Transportation, Yakama Power and other offices affecting land use on the Yakama reservation.
  • Ability to assure that any management of Indian Trust assets considers the interest of the owner(s) and their intended use of the assets; conserves and protects trust assets.
  • Ability to listen and respond appropriately to others (oral, written or non-verbal); demonstrates attention to and conveys information, ideas, facts or messages appropriately and effectively. Uses effective and proper grammar, spelling and required formats in written communication.
  • Ability to communicate and work with beneficiaries and clients to assess their needs.
  • Ability to prepare documents and forms accurately.
  • Ability to work under stress and deadlines.
  • Ability to become a notary public within probationary period.
  • Ability to utilize a computer and a variety of software programs as well as other routine office equipment including copiers, scanners, faxes and calculators.
Minimum Requirements
  • High School or GED.
  • One-year documented experience in trust real estate office.
  • Required to pass pre-employment drug test.
  • Must possess a valid Washington State Driver's License with the ability to obtain a Yakama Nation Driving permit.
  • Must pass an extensive background investigation required by the U.S. Bureau of Indian Affairs.
  • Enrolled Yakama Preference, but all qualified applicants are encouraged to apply.
Preferred Requirements
  • Training relative to real estate services, Natural resources, cultural or other land related field is desired but not required.
