Responsibilities:
- Manage the real-time operations of NRG's asset portfolio, including dispatching generation based on economic conditions and operational constraints.
- Take or direct timely and appropriate real-time actions in accordance with ISO rules and procedures.
- Coordinate unit availability, outage schedules, unit startup and shutdown times, and communicate all necessary information to plant personnel, ISOs, fuel, and trading groups in a timely and professional manner.
- Monitor and ensure ancillary services schedules are met to minimize portfolio risk and facilitate system reliability.
- Communicate operational and emergency conditions with Balancing Authorities, Reliability Coordinators, Transmission Operators, and ISO on a continual basis.
- Monitor and analyze market information to identify dispatching and trading opportunities.
- Manage dispatching and trading decisions with a focus on balancing risk versus return to maximize profitability.
- Analyze and evaluate energy transactions to ensure compliance with energy price, transmission, counterparty, and contractual terms per NRG's Risk Management Policy.
- Interact with ISO web-based market tools and applications.
- Switch between tasks effectively, adapt to shifting priorities while maintaining attention to detail and quality.
- Implement real-time actions to ensure the stable and reliable operation of the Bulk Electric System.
- Comply with NERC Reliability Standards and regional ISO rules and tariffs.
- Complete necessary NERC certification and continuing education requirements.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in economics, business, finance, or relevant field, or equivalent military or industry experience.
- Strong mathematical and technical skills.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proven ability to act within time constraints.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Suite and web-based environments.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Self-motivated, able to work independently and in a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience with markets such as CAISO, ERCOT, MISO, PJM, NYISO, ISONE is preferred.
- NERC and PJM certification is a plus; if not certified, must complete within 18 months.
- Must complete desk qualification within 12 months.
- Ability to work 12-hour shifts in a 24/7 operation and fulfill storm/event duty requirements, including extended shifts during catastrophic events.
