Job summary

The University of Texas at Austin is seeking a full-time R&D Signal and Information Processing Software Developer (Engineering Scientist) to join the SISL Active Sonar Group on Pickle Research Campus in Austin, TX. The role focuses on developing real-time mid-frequency active sonar processing capabilities, including algorithm design, implementation, verification and performance analysis.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Electrical, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Math, Physics, or related field.
  • Three years of software development experience.
  • Proficiency with C++ in Linux.
  • Strong understanding of OOP, data structures, design patterns, and algorithm performance analysis.
  • Experience with SDLC, testing methodologies, and debugging/profiling tools.
  • Experience troubleshooting complex software systems.
  • Experience with Linux and open-source tools for coding, testing and documentation.
  • Experience with version control, issue tracking, and automated testing.
  • Familiarity with Bash or similar scripting languages.
  • Familiarity with basic signal processing concepts.

Responsibilities

  • Identify software requirements with project leadership and plan development tasks.
  • Collaborate to design and develop new software features and maintain existing solutions.
  • Lead software tasks across all engineering phases and ensure quality through testing.
  • Lead integration activities with external collaborators for sonar systems.
  • Participate in code reviews and uphold coding standards and performance.
  • Document software design, implementation, procedures and troubleshooting guidance.
  • Assist with process improvement and knowledge sharing.
