Job summary

An essential services provider is seeking a part-time Jamaican Patois Linguist. In this role, you will perform real-time translations and transcriptions for law enforcement, requiring expertise in Jamaican Patois and strong transcription skills. Ideal candidates must demonstrate strong verbal and written communication abilities and possess relevant degrees or equivalent experience. The role offers flexibility in scheduling, including day and night shifts.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree AND three (3) years’ professional experience OR Associate degree AND five (5) years’ experience OR High School Diploma AND seven (7) years of experience.
• Select applicants may be subject to a government background investigation.
• Demonstrates excellent verbal and written skills with correct grammar and spelling.

Responsibilities

• Perform real-time transcriptions of Jamaican Patois to English.
• Collect, analyze, and summarize information for law enforcement.
• Produce court-ready transcriptions following required formats.

Skills

Transcription experience

Excellent verbal and written skills in Jamaican Patois

Strong computer skills in MS Office

Knowledge of source language colloquial terms

Typing speed of 45 words per minute

Education

Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
