Job summary

Actalent is hiring a Software Architect in Houston, TX, to lead the definition and realization of robust, real‑time flight software architectures for autonomous space vehicles. This hands‑on role drives software lifecycle activities, from requirements to release, while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to meet mission standards.

The role emphasizes technical leadership without direct reports, with a strong focus on RTOS, C/C++, HIL validation, and agile practices in a fully onsite

Qualifications

• 15+ years of experience in mission‑critical software development.
• Proven experience defining software architectures for embedded/flight software.
• Strong experience in real‑time embedded systems, including design, development, and integration.
• Hands‑on experience with flight control systems or aerospace software.
• Expert‑level proficiency in C and C++ for embedded real‑time development.
• Experience with real‑time operating systems (RTOS) in embedded environments.
• Demonstrated expertise in software architecture design for safety‑critical applications.
• End‑to‑end software development experience from requirements to verification.

Responsibilities

• Define flight software architectures for real‑time, safety‑critical systems used in autonomous space vehicles.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to define requirements, architectures, and designs.
• Lead verification to ensure compliance with safety standards and requirements.
• Oversee fault‑tolerant flight software for autonomous vehicle control.
• Design, implement, and integrate real‑time embedded components for flight control.
• Oversee unit test development and execution to ensure code quality.
• Lead validation in Hardware‑in‑the‑Loop (HIL) environments.
• Drive the release of real‑time embedded software aligned with mission needs.
• Create and maintain architecture, design, and verification documentation.
• Communicate progress, risks, and issues to stakeholders and leadership.
• Apply agile project management methods throughout the lifecycle.
• Provide technical mentorship without direct people management.
