Job summary

Fluidstack in Austin, TX is seeking engineers to design and own the facility side of the energy control contract for our gigawatt-scale data centers. You will manage the protocol layer, gateway service and third-party plant controllers, with a focus on real-time load control and safe operation.

You will build the messaging and state layer, own data contracts, and create observability to prove conformance in production.

Qualifications

• Experience with high-throughput messaging systems and knowing failure modes before production.
• Design time-series data models and understand tradeoffs between write throughput and query performance.
• Instrument production services with observability tools and treat metrics as part of shipping.
• Built/owned production services that teams depend on and are comfortable with paging in production.
• Ability to reason from first principles and justify design choices.
• Define interfaces and boundaries to limit cascading failures.
• End-to-end data pipelines from device to database with data integrity as a constraint.
• Able to navigate urgent, hard problems with urgency and calm.

Responsibilities

• Build and own the facility side of the energy control contract: protocol layer, gateway service, and API plant controllers.
• Design and evolve the messaging and state layer to publish telemetry with forecasting every second.
• Own data contracts and engineering standards across sites and counterparty integrations.
• Create the constraint execution path to answer what the facility can achieve within seconds.
• Develop observability to prove conformance in production, including per-stage latency and watchdog health.
