Job summary

Commonwealth Fusion Systems is seeking a Control Software Engineer to design, implement, and verify software and controls for advanced R&D equipment and machinery. You will contribute as a hands‑on technical coder, delivering production‑ready software for mission‑critical real‑time systems.

You will work with engineers to integrate your software into testbeds and production tooling, improve development velocity, and support operator interfaces, while adhering to modern SDLC practices and safety

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering field.
• 5+ years of experience with industrial or embedded control systems.
• Production‑quality control software experience.
• Proficiency in Python and at least one real‑time language.
• Experience with EtherCAT/Profinet/Modbus or similar protocols.
• Experience developing HMIs for industrial equipment.
• Willingness to travel, nights, weekends, or on‑call as needed.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement and verify software for advanced R&D equipment and machinery.
• Develop control software across PLCs and real‑time Linux.
• Create operator interfaces and workflows for production environments.
• Improve tooling to accelerate development and deployment.
• Collaborate with a broad team to integrate software into testbeds and production tools.
