Job summary

MAA is seeking a General Ledger Accountant to support the monthly close for a portfolio of properties. The role involves preparing journal entries, posting to the general ledger, and ensuring accurate financial statements.

The successful candidate will apply GAAP knowledge, review reconciliations, and analyze variances. Real estate accounting experience and Yardi familiarity are strongly preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• Two years of professional accounting, finance or related experience.
• Real estate or property accounting experience preferred; Yardi experience strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepares journal entries for posting to the general ledger, financial statements, reconciliations, and variance analysis during monthly closeout.
• Reviews financial statements for accuracy and prepares accruals, amortizations and reclassifications to complete the final monthly close package.
• Analyzes balance sheet accounts and prepares balance sheet reconciliations with explanations.
• Analyzes monthly utility expenses and provides variance explanations.
• Participates in SOX testing and supports internal audits.
