Job summary

The Durst Organization seeks an Associate Corporate Counsel to partner with the Legal & Risk Management Department in managing residential leasing matters and supporting the Commercial Leasing Department. The role involves drafting, negotiating, and interpreting a wide range of real estate and non-real estate agreements while ensuring sound governance and regulatory compliance.

Ideal candidates have 3–8 years of NYC real estate law experience, with proven leasing, litigation, and negotiation

Qualifications

• 3-8 years of experience with New York City real estate law at a law firm, in house, or a combination thereof.
• Experience in commercial and residential landlord-tenant litigation.
• Demonstrated experience with drafting and negotiating commercial real estate transaction documents.
• Meticulous analytical skills.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Highly organized and process driven.
• Ability to work well independently and in a team setting.
• Strong project management skills with the ability to effectively multitask and prioritize.
• Law Degree from accredited U.S. law school.
• Member must be in good standing with the New York State Bar.

Responsibilities

• Manage and oversee residential and commercial leasing matters.
• Draft, negotiate and interpret a broad range of real estate and non-real estate agreements.
• Draft and review commercial leases, retail leases, license agreements and related documents.
• Provide guidance on leases, riders, notices, and governing documents to ensure legal compliance.
• Coordinate with Leasing, Finance, and outside counsel to complete lease documentation.
• Monitor letters of credit, lender consents, and related encumbrances.
• Prepare lease execution memoranda and maintain documentation.
• Advise on corporate formation, governance documents, and miscellaneous agreements.
• Support sustainability initiatives and cross-functional collaboration.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state and local laws.
