Real Estate Attorney - Job Overview
Publix is looking for a Real Estate Attorney to join its legal team in Lakeland, Florida. The primary purpose of this position is to provide legal support to the Real Estate and Facilities Departments with respect to day‑to‑day operations and new store growth, including leasing, acquisitions, developments, and other strategic initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Analyzing and providing legal advice on real estate and facilities transactions, strategies, and other issues affecting a large portfolio of retail and industrial locations, with a focus on problem‑solving.
- Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating legal documents related to real estate and facilities, such as build‑to‑suit leases, ground leases, purchase and sale documents, declarations, restrictive covenants, easements, development agreements, assignments, guarantees, etc.
- Reviewing and analyzing title and survey matters.
- Working collaboratively with other members of the legal team to prepare and maintain forms, develop processes, manage special projects, and related tasks.
Required Qualifications
- Juris Doctorate from an ABA‑accredited law school
- Minimum of 5 years related legal experience
- Admission in good standing to a State Bar
- Excellent document drafting, negotiation, interpersonal, and time‑management skills
- Typing speed of 40–50 words per minute
- Logical, critical, and creative thinking abilities
- Strong problem‑identification and solution‑development skills
- Sound judgment and decision‑making based on knowledge, experience, and observation
- Ability to read and interpret legal and regulatory documents
- Effective communication with diverse audiences
- Ability to handle confidential matters
- Ability to work under pressure and independently
- Leadership and resource‑management skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Word
- Experience with retail real‑estate matters
- Willingness to work in a cross‑functional setting
Preferred Qualifications
- Member of the Florida Bar
- Five years of practice with a concentration in commercial leasing and acquisitions
- Knowledge of supermarket business

Year End Bonus
As a year‑end bonus to associates, Publix issues one month’s extra pay (pro‑rated in the first year) each year if the associate remains employed through the issue date of the bonus check that year. This is calculated as a 13th month of pay in the Potential Annual Pay with Bonus line above.
