Qualifications

• 5-7 years of land use and zoning experience.
• Licensed to practice law in New Jersey.

• Strong experience with site plan, subdivision, variance, rezoning, and development plan applications.
• Familiarity with New Jersey land use regulations and coordinating approvals from multiple governmental entities.
• Experience conducting land use and zoning due diligence for acquisitions, dispositions, leasing transactions, and development projects.
• Strong legal research, writing, advocacy, negotiation, and client management skills.

AJ Chambers are thrilled to be working with an established and highly regarded law firm is seeking a Land Use & Redevelopment Associate with 5-7 years of experience to join its sophisticated land use and redevelopment practice.

This role offers the opportunity to work with developers, property owners, public utilities, and institutional clients on complex development, redevelopment, zoning, and permitting matters. The successful candidate will play a key role in advising clients on significant projects and navigating regulatory and governmental approval processes.

Must Haves

• 5-7 years of land use and zoning experience.
• Licensed to practice law in New Jersey.
• Experience representing clients before municipal land use boards and governmental agencies.
• Strong experience with site plan, subdivision, variance, rezoning, and development plan applications.
• Familiarity with New Jersey land use regulations and coordinating approvals from multiple governmental entities.
• Experience conducting land use and zoning due diligence for acquisitions, dispositions, leasing transactions, and development projects.
• Strong legal research, writing, advocacy, negotiation, and client management skills.
• Ability to independently manage matters while providing practical, business-focused legal advice.

Nice to Have

• Experience with redevelopment law and redevelopment projects.
• Familiarity with redevelopment area designations, redevelopment plans, redeveloper agreements, PILOT agreements, and economic development incentives.
• Experience handling land use and redevelopment litigation in New Jersey State Courts.
• Prior experience appearing before planning boards, zoning boards of adjustment, and state regulatory agencies.
