Job summary

Hines in Chicago seeks an experienced accounting leader to oversee complex real estate finance operations. The role emphasizes GAAP compliance, treasury oversight, and accurate month/quarter reporting across multiple properties.

You will manage a team, mentor staff, and partner with executives to optimize financial performance while ensuring risk controls and regulatory adherence. The ideal candidate has a CPA, 6+ years of accounting experience in real estate, and proven management;

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration or related discipline from an accredited institution.
• CPA certification is required.
• Six or more years of professional accounting experience, preferably a combination of public and industry.
• Three or more years of prior management experience required.
• Public accounting experience is strongly preferred.
• Commercial real estate accounting is required.
• Tax experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Communicate and coordinate effectively with Hines functional groups and external parties.
• Treasury functions including review of bank reconciliations and cash flow projections.
• Review and approve funding requests to investors and lenders.
• Review and approve reserves and write-offs in accordance with governing agreements.
• Maintain working knowledge of various legal documents (loan, JV, leases, etc).
• Ensure all accounting records and reports are maintained in GAAP or other basis of accounting.
• General ledger review and analysis.
• Review monthly and quarterly reporting for properties or projects.
• Review accounting position memos documenting treatment of items.
• Maintain internal controls through documented policies and procedures.
• Handle complex ownership/equity structures.
• Understand budget and forecasts to inform financial state of projects.
• Administer financial statements and internal audits.
• Review tax projections and tax workpapers.
• Provide guidance to Accounting and Operations teams.
• Supervise training and development of accounting staff.
• Direct and monitor working relationships with counterparts.
• Conduct performance reviews and compensation recommendations for subordinates.
• Identify risks and implement risk mitigation strategies.
