Job summary

Kids for the Future in Boise, Idaho is seeking a Ready-Mix Plant Mechanic to install, maintain, and repair batch plant equipment. This hands-on role focuses on practical mechanical skill, troubleshooting, and the willingness to learn on the job.

You will work with conveyors, mixers, piping, and support equipment, performing preventive maintenance, diagnosing issues, and helping with new plant startups in a safety-conscious environment.

Qualifications

  • Hands-on mechanical experience in an industrial environment (ready-mix, aggregate, or similar preferred).
  • Working knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems.
  • Ability to weld, cut, and fabricate basic metal components.
  • Comfortable using hand and power tools.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Willingness to learn new systems and receive on-the-job training.
  • Ability to read basic schematics, wiring diagrams, or equipment manuals.
  • Valid driver's license (CDL a plus but not required).
  • Ability to work outdoors in varied weather conditions.
  • Strong work ethic, reliability, and safety mindset.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on batch plant equipment (mixers, conveyors, batching systems, pumps, compressors, dust collection systems, etc.).
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical issues on plant equipment.
  • Install and fabricate plant components — piping, air lines, hydraulic lines, and structural attachments — for new equipment or plant upgrades.
  • Weld, cut, and fabricate parts and attachments as required.
  • Perform routine inspections of belts, rollers, chutes, scales, probes, and other wear components.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve equipment breakdowns quickly to minimize plant downtime.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance performed, parts used, and outstanding repair needs.
  • Follow all safety protocols and participate in daily safety discussions.
  • Assist with new plant startups and equipment installations.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Working knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems

  • Ability to weld, cut, and fabricate basic metal components

  • Comfortable using hand and power tools

  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills

  • Willingness to learn new systems and receive on-the-job training

PREFERRED (NOT REQUIRED)


  • Trade school certificate or vocational training in mechanics, welding, or industrial maintenance

  • Experience with ready-mix concrete batch plants or similar heavy industrial equipment

  • Forklift or heavy equipment operation experience


A trade school background or certifications are a plus, but they are not required — candidates with strong hands-on experience and mechanical aptitude are encouraged to apply regardless of formal education.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS


  • Ability to lift to 50 lbs

  • Ability to climb, bend, kneel, and work at heights

  • Ability to work in outdoor conditions, including heat, cold, and dust

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
