Job summary

MassBay Community College seeks a part-time Reading & Writing Learning Specialist to develop and implement academic services in reading and writing across the curriculum. The role involves working with students individually or in groups to boost achievement and retention, and may include training tutors in reading and writing.

The ideal candidate will join a vibrant, inclusive environment and support a range of student needs. This position is hybrid (remote and on-site) with no benefits.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in rhetoric/composition, English, ESL, education, or related field, with 1 year of teaching or training experience.
• Experience teaching reading and writing to diverse student populations.
• Experience with ESL and adult learners.
• Ability to work in a team and use instructional technology.

Responsibilities

• Meet with students individually to assess learning needs in reading and writing across the curriculum.
• Deliver direct services or refer to appropriate resources.
• Develop innovative approaches to student success and independent learning.
• Work with peer tutors to support student learning, including training/mentoring of peer tutors.
• Assist with community and college outreach in support of the Academic Achievement Center’s mission.
• Collaborate with faculty across disciplines to determine student needs and response strategies.
• Assist in grant writing, reporting, and grant-funded initiatives.
