Job summary

Reading Assist Fellows provide reading instruction to students in kindergarten through fifth grade in Washington, DC, as part of an AmeriCorps program. Fellows work with small groups or one-on-one sessions, guided by a Program Manager and regular school visits, to help students develop foundational reading skills.

Fellows begin with four weeks of full-time training and commit to a school year of service from October 5, 2026, to June 30, 2027, with daily hours roughly 8:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m.

Qualifications

• Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
• Must have completed a college degree (preferred).
• Willing to commit to a school year of service.
• Proficient in or prepared to learn Google Drive, Zoom, PowerPoint, and email.

Responsibilities

• Provide reading instruction to K–5 students who struggle with reading.
• Work with up to 6–18 students for daily sessions and monitor progress.
• Collaborate with Program Manager and school liaisons for feedback and data input.
• Attend required training and participate in AmeriCorps activities.
