Job description

Primary Objective: To provide intensive intervention that implements scientifically based reading instruction to improve reading skills, develop composition skills, encourage critical thinking, and to improve the academic skills needed for success.

Essential Functions

  • Creates an equitable learning environment for all students that fosters empathy and understanding
  • Identify, diagnose and assist children who have reading difficulties
  • Prescribe a remediation program for children having reading difficulties
  • Instruct children in an individualized remediation program
  • Test new students to determine reading level
  • Provide principals with current evaluations of remedial reading students
  • Consult with the classroom teacher about problems pertaining to reading
  • Supply classroom teachers with materials which will enhance the total reading program
  • Make special provisions for supplying the reading needs of children who have reading difficulties
  • Serve as a reading consultant and a reading resource person for staff and parents.
  • Assist the principal in directing the reading program within the building
  • Be cognizant of current approaches, methods and research in reading development
  • Utilize data to effectively assess, intervene, and monitor for student success
  • Work collaboratively within a Professional Learning Community
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree
  • Missouri Teacher Certification (Special Reading K-12)
  • Experience with Units of Study Reading and Writing along with various reading intervention resources(LETRS Training Preferred)
  • Experience with utilizing Guided Reading Structures, Research based Phonics Instruction, and work with Decodable Readers
