Job description

Join to apply for the Reading Specialist, Givens Elementary role at Webster Groves School District.

Primary Objective: To provide intensive intervention that implements scientifically based reading instruction to improve reading skills, develop composition skills, encourage critical thinking, and enhance the academic skills needed for success.

Essential Functions:

  1. Create an equitable learning environment for all students that fosters empathy and understanding.
  2. Identify, diagnose, and assist children with reading difficulties.
  3. Prescribe a remediation program for children with reading difficulties.
  4. Instruct children in an individualized remediation program.
  5. Test new students to determine reading level.
  6. Provide principals with current evaluations of remedial reading students.
  7. Consult with classroom teachers about reading-related issues.
  8. Supply classroom teachers with materials to enhance the reading program.
  9. Make provisions for the reading needs of children with difficulties.
  10. Serve as a reading consultant and resource for staff and parents.
  11. Assist the principal in directing the reading program.
  12. Stay informed on current approaches, methods, and research in reading development.
  13. Utilize data to assess, intervene, and monitor student success.
  14. Collaborate within a Professional Learning Community.
  15. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (minimum)
  • Missouri Teacher Certification in Special Reading K-12
  • Experience with Units of Study Reading and Writing, reading intervention resources (LETRS Training preferred)
  • Experience with Guided Reading Structures, research-based phonics instruction, and decodable readers
