Job summary

The Chester County Intermediate Unit seeks a full-time Reading Specialist to develop and implement an evidence-based literacy program for students. Programs are tailored from data gathered through evaluations, teacher input, and parent guidance, with progress shared with classroom teachers, IEP/504 teams, and families.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in special education or general education is required.
• Wilson training preferred, Wilson Certification preferred.
• Master's degree in reading preferred.
• 3 years teaching experience required, experience teaching reading preferred.
• PA Reading Specialist certification required.
• PA Special Education teaching certification preferred.
• Fingerprints clearances required (PA) within one year.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement developmentally appropriate literacy instruction rooted in best practices.
• Provide direct instruction in reading and writing to students individually or in small groups.
• Provides literacy instruction and support to students with disabilities in accordance with their IEP.
• Implements evidenced-based programs with fidelity according to guidelines and student needs.
• Develops lesson plans and instructional materials to address students' needs.
• Maintains an organized system for storage and circulation of reading and writing materials.
• Supports executive functioning needs for students through coherent processes.
• Coordinates with districts, school staff, and service providers to support student programs.
• Collects and analyzes progress data and prepares reports.

Education

Bachelor's degree in special education or general education

Master's degree in reading

PA Reading Specialist certification

PA Special Education teaching certification
