Chester County Intermediate Unit is seeking a Reading Specialist to develop and implement literacy instruction for students, based on data from evaluations, observations, and inputs from teachers and families.

The position requires PA Reading Specialist certification, a teaching license, and strong collaboration with IEP/504 teams, with duties including progress monitoring and leading literacy-related professional development.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in special education or general education required.
• Wilson training preferred, Wilson Certification preferred.
• Master's degree in reading preferred.
• 3 years teaching experience required, experience teaching reading preferred.
• Valid PA Reading Specialist certification required.
• Valid PA Special Education teaching certification preferred.
• Current, within one year, police, child abuse & FBI Fingerprint clearances required.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement developmentally appropriate literacy instruction rooted in best practices.
• Provide direct instruction in reading and writing to students individually or in a small group format.
• Provide literacy instruction and support to students with disabilities per IEP.
• Implements evidence-based programs with fidelity according to guidelines and student needs.
• Develops lesson plans and instructional materials to address students' needs.
• Maintains an organized system for reading and writing materials.
• Supports executive functioning needs by designing coherent processes in organization, planning, processing, initiating, and completing tasks.
• Coordinates with districts, school staff, and outside agencies to support student programs.
• Collects and analyzes progress data and prepares progress reporting.
• Serves as a member of IEP/ Multidisciplinary teams to review student progress.
• Leads professional development on literacy development and teaching methodologies.
• Provides leadership in literacy development and curriculum selection.
• Assists in selecting materials used by teachers.
• Participates in interagency meetings as necessary.
• Manages schedules and logs for student services.
• Attends department meetings and professional development.
• Adheres to policies, procedures, ethics and legal standards.

Summary of Position: The Reading Specialist develops and implements an individual and/or small group instructional program for students based on data gathered through reading evaluations, observation, teacher input, and parent/guardian input.The Reading Specialist is charged with designing prescriptive and intentional reading instruction that is driving the attainment of student achievement outcomes.The Reading Specialist will monitor the students' progress and communicate this information to the classroom teacher, administration, IEP Team or 504 Team, and parents/guardians.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Design and implement developmentally appropriate literacy instruction rooted in best practices.
• Provide direct instruction in the areas of reading and writing to students individually or in a small group format.
• Provides literacy instruction and support to students with disabilities in accordance with their individualized education program (IEP).
• Implements a wide range of evidenced-based programs with fidelity according to program guidelines and individual student needs.
• Develops lesson plans and instructional materials to address students' individual needs.
• Maintains an organized system and accessible location for the storage and circulation of reading and writing materials.
• Supports executive functioning needs for students by designing coherent processes in the primary areas of organization, planning, processing, initiating, and completing assigned tasks.
• Works cooperatively with intermediate unit, school district, public charter and/or nonpublic staff, including special education teachers, general education teachers, pupil services staff, and related service providers, and outside agencies to coordinate student's program and provide appropriate level of support.
• Collects and analyses progress monitoring data and prepares appropriate progress monitoring reports and evaluation report summaries according to required timelines.
• Serves as a member of the Multidisciplinary evaluation team and/or IEP team to review student progress based on delivery of reading specialist services.
• Leads professional development to professional staff and support staff in regards to best practices in the area of literacy development and teaching methodologies.
• Provides leadership and expertise in the area of literacy development and curriculum selection.
• Assists in the selection of appropriate materials utilized by the classroom teacher.
• Participates in interagency meetings when necessary.
• Coordinates requests for direct services with referring district or school.
• Logs student support services according to the identified frequency and duration.
• Creates and manages individual schedule of student services on caseload.
• Attends department meetings and professional development.
• Adheres to intermediate policies and procedures.
• Adheres to professional, ethical, and legal standards.
• Other duties as assigned.

Salary Range (based 2026-2027 schedule):

• Instructional I: $62,155- $89,730
• Instructional II: $64,834- $93,324
• Master's Degree: $69,353- $101,911
• Master's + 15: $72,740- $105,924
• Master's + 30:$74,415- $107,845

Schedule: Monday - Friday
7.5 hours per day for 194-days based school calendar
