Connecting the Pieces is seeking a Pennsylvania Certified Reading Specialist to provide services to students during traditional school hours who are diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Emotional Disturbance, Specific Learning Disability, Intellectual Disability, Other Health Impairment as well as learners with no diagnosis but require assistance.

Responsibilities:

• Works 1:1 or with small groups with struggling readers.
• Assists students improve literacy skills, assesses reading difficulties,
• Uses evidence-based methods for phonics, fluency, and comprehension.
• Provides specialized instruction to support students’ development.
• Creating lesson plans to improve literacy.
• Coaching students on techniques and skills to improve literacy
• Designing intervention plans for students who could benefit from more literacy support.

Qualifications:

• Requires an active Pennsylvania reading specialist’s certification.
• 1 to 2 Years’ Experience working with children who have special needs.
• Available during typical school hours and after school hours.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Ability to build a rapport with student(s) and team members.
• Well-organized and dependable.
• PA State and FBI clearances.
• Flexibility in schedule creation within regular school hours (typically 8 am-4 pm) – select cases that fit your schedule availability.
• Ability to negotiate an hourly rate with the Human Resources Department.
• Freedom to decide how much time you want to work each week – work as many cases/hours or as few as you would like (based on case availability).
