Job summary

Njaseps is seeking a reading specialist to support classroom teaching and extend literacy instruction. You will work with teachers, therapists, and paraprofessionals to implement a quality, evidence-based reading program tailored to individual needs.

The role includes assessing students, delivering professional development, and collaborating on school-wide reading initiatives. You will communicate recommendations to parents and participate in IEP meetings.

Qualifications

• Valid NJ DOE Reading Specialist Certification required.
• Experience working with students with special needs preferred.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with a multidisciplinary team.
• Excellent communication with parents and staff.
• Passionate about improving literacy and love of reading for students.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct reading instruction to small groups and individuals based on student needs.

Job description

The reading specialist supports comma supplements and extends classroom teaching and works collaboratively to implement a quality reading program that is research-based data driven and meets the individual needs of students.

Key responsibilities:

• Provide direct reading instruction to small groups and individual students based on their specific needs.
• Assess students reading abilities and implement appropriate intervention strategies.
• Work closely with teachers, therapists, and paraprofessionals to integrate literacy strategies into the curriculum.
• Support students through in classroom instruction and individualized literacy sessions.
• Develop and lead professional development sessions on best practices and reading instruction.
• Work as part of a team to evaluate and recommend reading programs to be implemented school wide.
• Monitor student progress, adjust instructional approaches as needed, and document interventions.
• Collaborate with classroom staff to implement evidence based literacy strategies tailored to students with special needs.
• Communicate with parents, providing recommendations and strategies to support their child's reading development at home.
• Attend and participate in IEP meetings providing appropriate input.
