Qualifications

  • Experience with dyslexia-specific intervention programs as a classroom or reading intervention teacher.
  • Organize and present workshops and seminars.
  • Effective communication and planning are required.

Job description

QUALIFICATIONS:

The required Alabama Professional Educator Certificate in Early Childhood, Elementary Education or Special
Education Collaborative.A master’s degree and Mastery Status in LETRS Early Childhood (EC) and/or LETRS K-12. (Applicants may be
enrolled in a master’s program or seek a master’s degree through a university partner that offers credit for
the CALT classes that will be completed while training to become a CALT. Applicants may be enrolled in and
actively participating in one of these LETRS courses.


Minimum three years of successful teaching of reading or content areas and good classroom management.


Experience provided intensive, targeted intervention utilizing an approved dyslexia‑specific intervention
program (from the current or previous ALSDE-approved lists) as a classroom teacher, special education
teacher, English Learner, or reading intervention teacher.

Demonstrated working knowledge of effective reading instruction.

Evidence of ability to organize and present workshops andseminars.

Evidence of effective communication and planning.

Physical mobility and visual acuity to make on‑site visits as neededto schools and work sites.

Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may findappropriate and acceptable.

JOB GOAL:

To help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their

development as mature, able and responsible members of society.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSBIBILITIES:

Assists teachers with improving reading instruction, including modeling lessons and devising strategies for hard-to reach students.

Administers and interprets formal and informal student inventories and assessments.

Conducts small group sessions with student identified in need of intervention.

Assists with the development and implementation of School Improvement and Title I Plans, etc. at the school level.

Establish objectives and plans learning experiences.

Implements activities using a variety of techniques that utilize instructional time to meet objectives.

Exhibits positive human relations skills.

Demonstrates proficiency in written and oral communication.

Maintains and submits records and reports.

Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local board policy, and state and federal rules and federal rules and regulations.

Assists with the coordination of parent activities with specific emphasis on academic improvement.

Keeps current with new ideas and exemplary practices.

Engages in personal professional growth and demonstrates professional ethics.

Performs other related duties that are required by the principal.

TERMS OFEMPLOYMENT:

Nine month year. Salary to be established by the Board.
