Job summary

ALABASTER CITY SCHOOLS is seeking an Instructional Interventionist - Reading (CALT or CALT in training) to provide intensive, targeted literacy instruction for students in grades 2–3 under the School Principal's supervision.

The role involves universal screening, PST collaboration, SRIP development, and administering dyslexia-focused assessments and interventions, plus coordination with teachers and parents. Nine months, with placement on the current salary schedule.

Qualifications

• Alabama Professional Educator Certificate in an appropriate category.
• Master's degree with LETRS mastery status or equivalent.
• Minimum three years of successful reading or content-area teaching and strong classroom management.
• Experience delivering intensive, dyslexia-specific interventions in schools.

Responsibilities

• Fully participate in CALT training and related MSLE activities (travel may be required).
• Administer universal reading screeners to all students.
• Contribute to Problem-Solving Team decisions and SRIP development.
• Use Dyslexia Screening to identify students’ needs and strengths.
• Deliver prescriptive, explicit dyslexia-specific instruction.
• Collaborate with classroom teachers or reading specialists to align intervention with classroom progress.
• Monitor reading progress and document it as an intervention in the system.
• Recommend instruction adjustments based on progress data.
• Serve as a teacher for summer reading camp and collect data for ARI.
• Collaborate with Local and Regional Literacy Specialist as needed.
• Ensure K–3 teachers using intervention programs are trained in the Dyslexia Specific Intervention Program.
