You've completed rigorous training in structured literacy: Orton-Gillingham, LETRS, Wilson, IMSE, or hold a Master's in reading instruction. You can pinpoint a phonemic gap from a single miscue and build a targeted phonics lesson without opening a scripted manual. That level of expertise is expected, not what sets you apart.

You create small-group reading workshops informed by live performance data and facilitate motivation sessions that inspire students to reach their weekly app targets through school currency, leaderboards, and developmentally appropriate game mechanics.

Your initial months focus on building trust and engagement. Workshops need to be engaging, appropriately leveled, and demonstrably effective. Student satisfaction and "love your Guide" feedback directly measure your success. Once you establish that foundation, your responsibilities expand: analyzing AI-generated data to refine instruction, documenting fluency and decoding progress, and contributing to Alpha's evolving K-2 reading framework as adaptive platforms advance.

Before an offer is extended, you'll submit a brief video sharing a captivating story for young learners and complete a full-day campus visit working hands-on with K-2 students. Low energy with children will disqualify candidates regardless of credential strength.

What You Will Be Doing

• Creating and facilitating small-group K-2 reading workshops rooted in structured-literacy frameworks (Orton-Gillingham, Wilson, LETRS, IMSE, or comparable), informed by live student performance data
• Facilitating daily motivation sessions designed to ensure 100% of your students meet their weekly adaptive-app targets, leveraging Alpha's motivational systems (school currency, leaderboards, age-appropriate gamification)
• Conducting and evaluating running records, fluency assessments, and decoding diagnostics to monitor progress and refine subsequent session planning
• Analyzing AI-generated performance insights from Alpha's adaptive learning platforms to differentiate instruction dynamically during sessions, not only during preparation
• Serving as the approachable, enthusiastic adult your K-2 students are genuinely excited to see each day

What You Won’t Be Doing

• Implementing a published reading curriculum, scripted lesson sequence, or district pacing calendar; you build custom lessons directly from student data
• Delivering whole-class lectures; all instruction occurs in targeted, small groups while students complete academic subjects through adaptive apps
• Serving as a reading consultant, instructional coach to teachers, or district-level literacy specialist; you work in the classroom with students daily
• Managing a traditional classroom schedule — sequential subject lectures, homework correction, test preparation; your time is allocated to workshops, motivation sessions, and data-informed small-group instruction
• Assigning grades on homework or report cards; student advancement is tracked through app analytics and your running records

Reading Coach Key Responsibilities

Provide structured-literacy instruction that produces measurable acceleration in K-2 reading performance across phonics, fluency, and decoding domains.

Basic Requirements

• Structured-literacy certification (Orton-Gillingham, LETRS, Wilson Reading System, IMSE, CERI, Neuhaus, UFLI, or equivalent) OR a Master's degree in reading instruction
• Bachelor's degree in any discipline, plus 2+ years of full-time K-2 structured reading instruction within the past 5 years in a school or clinical environment, utilizing systematic phonics or structured literacy
• Proven ability to independently design reading lessons and clearly articulate instructional content and methodology without dependence on a published program
• Proven ability to assess reading growth and describe specific student improvements in areas such as fluency, accuracy, phonics, or decoding
• Availability to work in person full-time at one Alpha campus: Phoenix, AZ; Oklahoma City or Tulsa, OK; Fort Worth (Keller), Dallas, Plano, or The Woodlands, TX; or Park City (Salt Lake City), UT (relocation assistance available)
• Willingness to work with the full K-2 student population (not exclusively struggling readers) and to incorporate AI and adaptive-learning technologies into everyday instruction
• Legally authorized to work in the United States without requiring visa sponsorship

Nice-to-have Requirements

• Direct experience using AI-powered or adaptive reading platforms (e.g., Amira, Lexia, i-Ready, Reading Plus) for instructional planning or student data interpretation
• Experience in non-traditional or innovative educational settings (charter, micro-school, Montessori, hybrid)
• Experience in performance, youth sports coaching, or otherwise engaging K-2 audiences outside traditional reading instruction
