Job summary

Alpha School is hiring for an on-site Reading Coach in Dorado, Puerto Rico. You will lead AI-enhanced reading workshops for K-2 students, focusing on phonics, fluency, and comprehension to reach grade-level reading goals.

The role requires a strong background in structured literacy and the ability to analyze progress data. Bilingual in English and Spanish, you will collaborate with engineers to improve AI literacy tools and create scalable content for thousands of students.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in any subject, plus either a Master’s in reading instruction or a structured literacy certification such as Orton-Gillingham, Wilson, IMSE, CERI, LETRS, Neuhaus, UFLI, or equivalent
• 2+ years of recent, full-time K-2 structured reading instruction in a school or clinical setting, using systematic phonics or structured literacy
• Skilled at administering and analyzing reading assessments, grouping students, and designing differentiated reading lessons without relying on a scripted curriculum
• An energetic, engaging presence with K-2 students, plus fluency in English and Spanish
• Proficient with AI or adaptive learning tools, able to interpret student performance data, and willing to adapt as the tools change
• Legal authorization to work in Puerto Rico without sponsorship and willingness to work on-site in Dorado

Responsibilities

• Running adaptive reading workshops that build phonics, comprehension, and fluency skills
• Designing personalized motivational sessions using gamified literacy milestones
• Analyzing student progress data to refine instruction and surface actionable insights
• Collaborating with engineers to evaluate and enhance AI literacy tools based on classroom results
• Developing scalable, AI-enhanced content that enables early elementary students to achieve grade-level proficiency
