The Hillingdon Hospital seeks an Occupational Therapy Assistant Practitioner in Environmental Controls. The role involves travelling across the North London region to support patients needing Environmental Control equipment, under supervision of clinicians, to improve independence and quality of life.

You will train patients and carers, document care activities, and participate in multi-disciplinary reviews within Mount Vernon Hospital and community settings.

Responsibilities

  • To support Specialist Bd7 OT and MDT in the provision of Environmental Control equipment to patients in the Community living with complex disabilities.
  • Follow-up on aspects after equipment installation to ensure issues are resolved, liaising with the patient, support workers, MDT and supplier contractor field engineer and Customer support staff.
  • Provide tuition and user information guides to patients regarding operation of their environmental control equipment.
  • Undertake reviews by telephone and visit of patient’s use of Environmental Control equipment and feedback to MDT members and other services involved as relevant.
  • Complete clinical records and other documentation in regard to patient contact and interventions in accordance with service procedures.
  • Undertake other clinically related administrative tasks to fulfil service workload; examples include appointment contact, routine correspondence, Outcome Measure data collation, patient equipment issue recording and summary letter.
  • Handling of Environmental Control equipment including adjustment of setup at patients’ homes, collection of equipment and standard decontamination procedures.

This is an exciting opportunity to work with a dedicated team of Healthcare Professionals providing Electronic Assistive Technology (EAT) to improve the independence and quality of life for clients with severe physical disabilities arising from a range of neurological and long-term progressive medical conditions.

The North Thames Regional Environmental Control Equipment Service (NT RECES) is a regional service which provides specialist equipment to enable clients to access appliances in their homes, such as TV, lights, telephone and pagers to call for assistance as well as means to access computer technology devices.

The successful applicant for this role will be expected to travel throughout the Service area of the base at Mount Vernon Hospital, covering North London (West Central and East), Hertfordshire and Luton, supporting those referred to the service, working as part of a multi-disciplinary Team, to ensure the safe and effective provision of EAT equipment.

The role will involve working under the supervision of clinicians in the team to support clients, carers and healthcare professionals in using the technology supplied, either in the clients’ own home or in residential settings. Following their own induction, the post holder will provide user training and tuition to support client with the EAT equipment provided to them. Feedback will be reported back to the referring clinician.

The post holder will be responsible for their own caseload as well as supporting the other Therapy staff of the team in the care of those referred to and accessing the service.

The applicant will need to have experience of supporting people with physical disability.

This post offers opportunity for those with an interest in technology to develop clinical skills in Electronic Assistive Technology. Many clients present with complex multi-pathologies and role includes developing an understanding of the impact of these conditions.

This post is available as a full time post, but applicants will also be accepted for appropriate part time working and with potential for some flexibility in working hours.
