Job summary

Sodexo Ltd. in Dalston, Carlisle is seeking a part-time chef to deliver high-quality meals across boardroom lunches, executive events and daily workplace dining. You will blend maintaining standards with speed in a fast-paced, client-focused environment.

The role requires NVQ Level 2 or equivalent, kitchen experience, stock control skills and a commitment to food safety. You will support the catering team and contribute to cost targets while maintaining presentation and service excellence.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a Cook or Chef in a busy catering environment.
  • Experience supporting or overseeing a catering service and working with a team.
  • Good knowledge of food hygiene, food safety and Health & Safety requirements.
  • Experience with stock control, ordering and managing food costs.
  • Ability to prepare and cook food confidently while sustaining quality and presentation.
  • Good organisational skills to plan workload and priorities.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Self-motivated and able to work on your own initiative.
  • Calm, organised and positive during busy service periods.
  • Willingness to learn and complete required training.
  • Experience supporting or training other team members would be beneficial.
  • IOSH Managing Safely qualification would be advantageous but isn’t essential.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, cook and serve high-quality meals, ensuring presentation meets high standards.
  • Manage the smooth running of the catering service during shifts and meet service standards.
  • Provide friendly, professional service to create a great customer experience.
  • Plan and organise food preparation and service to ensure on-time delivery.
  • Assist with stock ordering and maintain appropriate levels.
  • Effectively manage stock rotation and control portion sizes to reduce waste.
  • Support food cost and margin targets while maintaining quality.
  • Keep kitchen areas clean, organised and compliant with safety rules.
  • Follow all food hygiene, Health & Safety and fire safety procedures.
  • Maintain accurate safety records and assist audits.
  • Ensure allergen and food safety requirements are followed.
  • Guide catering colleagues during shifts to deliver high service standards.
  • Respond to customer feedback and seek service improvements.
  • Use company systems and Microsoft Office for records and admin.
  • Maintain high standards of personal hygiene and appearance.
  • Support other catering areas and undertake training to develop skills.

What you'll do:
  • Prepare, cook and serve high-quality meals, ensuring food is presented to a consistently high standard.
  • Take responsibility for the smooth running of the catering service during your shifts, ensuring agreed service standards are achieved.
  • Provide a friendly and professional service, helping to create a great experience for customers.
  • Plan and organise food preparation and service to ensure everything is ready on time.
  • Take responsibility for ordering goods and maintaining appropriate stock levels.
  • Manage stock effectively, including stock rotation, portion control and reducing food waste.
  • Support the achievement of food cost and margin targets while maintaining excellent quality.
  • Ensure the kitchen, food preparation and storage areas are clean, organised and secure.
  • Follow all food hygiene, Health & Safety, fire safety and safe working procedures.
  • Maintain accurate food safety and compliance records and support the achievement of required audit standards.
  • Ensure allergen and food safety requirements are followed throughout food preparation and service.
  • Support and guide catering colleagues during your shift, helping the team deliver a consistently high standard of service.
  • Respond positively to customer feedback and look for opportunities to improve the catering service.
  • Use company systems and Microsoft Office where required to complete records and administration.
  • Maintain high standards of personal hygiene and professional appearance.
  • Support other areas of the catering operation when required and undertake relevant training to continue developing your skills.
What you'll bring:
  • A

706/2, NVQ Level 2 Chef qualification or equivalent.

  • Previous experience working as a Cook or Chef within a busy catering environment.
  • Experience supporting or overseeing a catering service and working effectively with a team.
  • Good knowledge of

food hygiene, food safety and Health & Safety requirements.

  • Experience with stock control, ordering and managing food costs.
  • The ability to prepare and cook food confidently while maintaining consistent standards of quality and presentation.
  • Good organisational skills with the ability to plan your workload and manage changing priorities.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • A self-motivated approach with the confidence to work on your own initiative when required.
  • The ability to remain calm, organised and positive during busy service periods.
  • Good IT skills, including experience using Microsoft Office.
  • A willingness to learn, develop your skills and complete any required training.
  • Previous experience supporting or training other team members would be beneficial.
  • An

IOSH Managing Safely qualification would be advantageous but isn't essential.

  • Flexibility to support other areas of the catering operation when required.
