Qualifications

• Education/Certification: High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Associate degree or 48 college hours required.
• Paraprofessional Certification preferred (required upon employment).
• Sign Language skills or Signing Exact English (intermediate or higher) required.
• Able to communicate effectively in sign language; follow verbal and written instructions; work with children.

Responsibilities

• Assist in supervising students throughout the school day, inside and outside the classroom.
• Work with individual students or small groups on instructional exercises.
• Assist with behavior management, toileting and/or medical needs as needed.
• Monitor students to and from buses, cafeterias, and classrooms.
• Assist the teacher in preparing instructional materials and inventory/care of equipment.
• Keep the teacher informed of special needs or problems of students.
• Maintain confidentiality and ethical standards of student information.
• Uphold school rules and policies; participate in trainings as assigned.
• Follow McAllen ISD customer service standards; perform other duties as assigned.
