Job summary

Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY: Under the general supervision of the Dental Director and in collaboration with Lead Dentists and Dental Practice/Site Managers, the RDA Manager provides leadership, coordination, and oversight of clinical support functions within the Dental Department while providing direct supervision of Lead RDAs and indirect supervision of their downline staff. Through this collaboration and leadership, the RDA Manager will ensure adequate clinical support staffing and standardization of procedures across the agency for optimal workflows and high-quality patient care while supporting NVIH policies, regulatory requirements, and infection control and safety standards. This position will require travel between Northern Valley Indian Health, Inc. sites.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The list that follows is not intended as a comprehensive list, but rather to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) will be required to perform a variety of duties listed, including but not limited to:

  • Providing leadership and support to Lead RDAs and downline staff as needed, including but not limited to staff evaluations, coaching/counseling, motivation and inspiration to work as a cohesive and productive team, assisting with recruiting, and supporting onboarding, training, and evaluation of staff competencies.
  • Support recruiting efforts with dental support positions including but not limited to directly screening applicants and interviewing or supporting Lead RDAs and their teams, outreach efforts to education institutions to support a pipeline of talent.
  • Coordinating and ensuring adequate Dental Department clinical support staffing for the Agency, with contingency planning for unexpected absences, including coordination of staff traveling from other sites.
  • Supporting implementation of new clinical workflows, procedures, and operational improvements while ensuring optimal standardization across the Agency.
  • Ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, including but not limited to OSHA, infection control, and verification logs.
  • Performing any and all duties of dental clinical support staff positions as needed to ensure continuity of dental back-office functions and to support patient access.
  • Support Dental Director and teams with fiscal responsibilities such as responsible fiscal practices for managing expenses and support budget discussions, as directed.
  • Support Dental Director and collaborate with other operational work units regarding various administrative needs, including but not limited to patient scheduling and coverage processes.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Experience and Skills

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: The following knowledge, skills, and abilities are required for an employee to successfully perform their duties.

  • Current California Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) license in good standing.
  • Bachelors degree in healthcare or business administration preferred
  • Five (5) years of clinical dental assisting experience.
  • Five (5) years of supervisory, lead, or leadership experience.
  • Working knowledge of infection control, dental regulations, radiation safety, and HIPAA requirements.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize competing demands and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proficiency with electronic dental records and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Leadership skills with the ability to motivate, inspire, coach, counsel and ensure team effectiveness in a fair and consistent manner.
  • Coronal Polish and Sealants Certificate and Radiation Safety Certificate preferred
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of dental care in a dental clinic setting, including knowledge of patient scheduling procedures.
  • Able to work collaboratively with multiple levels of professionals in a busy and complex environment using tact, diplomacy and discipline, requiring excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Skill in efficiently planning and executing work, demonstrated organizational skills which produce efficient results
  • Excellent written, oral communication skills, including the ability to engage in public speaking
  • Exhibit empathy and customer service to diffuse and manage conflict within the team and cross functional departments
  • Demonstrated sound critical thinking and solve problems with comprehensive and effective solutions.
  • Reliable transportation for travel between sites and the ability to engage in regular attendance.
