Job summary

Boston Scientific is seeking an R&D Engineering Intern in Maple Grove, MN. You’ll join a cross‑functional team to design, develop and validate innovative medical devices and therapies, gaining end‑to‑end exposure to the product lifecycle.

The role emphasizes collaboration, problem solving, and regulatory compliance in a fast‑paced environment. On‑site work four days per week with relocation/housing assistance as applicable.

Responsibilities

• Design and Testing: assist in design and development of medical devices, prototypes, testing and validation.
• Problem-solving and Compliance: support failure analysis and regulatory compliance activities.
• Cross-functional Collaboration: work with PM, process development, quality, marketing, manufacturing, and regulatory teams.
• Documentation and Reporting: prepare technical reports and design history files for regulatory submissions.

As an R&D Engineering Intern, your role is focused on driving the design, development, and integration of groundbreaking technologies. You will be part of a cross‑functional team, providing opportunities to build relationships with professionals in a diverse range of fields. This role offers a unique chance to work on innovative technologies, gain end‑to‑end exposure to the product development cycle, and excel in a dynamic, fast‑paced environment.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Design and Testing : Assist in the design and development of medical devices, conducting feasibility studies, developing prototypes, and performing testing and validation.
• Problem‑Solving and Compliance : Support investigations into failure modes, perform root cause analyses, and develop solutions to address technical challenges. Ensure compliance with relevant regulatory requirements and standards.
• Cross‑Functional Collaboration : Collaborate with cross‑functional teams, including project management, process development, quality, marketing, manufacturing, and regulatory affairs, to ensure successful project execution.
• Documentation and Reporting : Prepare and review engineering documentation, including technical reports, design history files, and regulatory submissions. Present project updates and technical insights to engineers and managers.

Required Qualifications

• Must graduate between Fall 2027 and Spring 2028
• Currently pursuing a bachelors or graduate degree in Biomedical or Mechanical Engineering
• Must be able to commit to one of the following full internship program periods: May 17th - August 6th OR May 24th - August 13th
• Must be eligible to work in the U.S. without company sponsorship, now or in the future, for employment‑based work authorization
• Must have reliable transportation to and from the Maple Grove, MN (Arbor Lakes) Boston Scientific Corporate location
• Experience collaborating on an engineering project in school or in a professional environment

Preferred Qualifications

• Excellent problem solving, communication, and time management skills
• Biomedical or anatomy experience and/or aptitude
• Basic understanding of design controls and risk management within the medical device industry
