Network Cabling Services (NCS) is seeking an experienced Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD) to support the design, development, documentation, and technical oversight of structured cabling and information and communications technology (ICT) infrastructure projects.
The RCDD will be responsible for developing high-quality telecommunications and structured cabling designs while working closely with project managers, estimators, engineers, architects, contractors, and customers. This position will support projects from initial site assessment and design through construction, installation, quality assurance, and project closeout.
The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of structured cabling systems, copper and fiber infrastructure, telecommunications spaces, pathways, industry standards, construction documentation, and commercial technology infrastructure.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop and review structured cabling and ICT infrastructure designs for commercial construction and technology projects.
- Design copper and fiber optic cabling systems, including backbone and horizontal distribution.
- Develop telecommunications infrastructure layouts, floor plans, riser diagrams, rack elevations, pathway designs, and equipment room layouts.
- Conduct site surveys and evaluate existing telecommunications infrastructure.
- Review architectural, engineering, and construction drawings to identify telecommunications requirements and design considerations.
- Prepare and review technical specifications, scopes of work, bills of materials, and construction documents.
- Develop design documentation and bid/RFP packages for structured cabling projects.
- Review project specifications for compliance with BICSI, ANSI/TIA, NEC, and applicable building codes and standards.
- Provide technical guidance to project managers, estimators, field teams, contractors, and customers.
- Review RFIs, submittals, change orders, shop drawings, and other project documentation.
- Assist estimating teams with technical requirements, material selections, quantities, labor considerations, and project scope.
- Participate in project planning, budgeting, and engineering reviews.
- Support field teams during construction and provide technical clarification when design questions arise.
- Perform quality assurance reviews of design documents and project deliverables.
- Coordinate with architects, engineers, general contractors, subcontractors, vendors, and customers.
- Review completed installations for alignment with approved designs and project requirements.
- Support development and review of as-built drawings and project closeout documentation.
- Maintain accurate project documentation and design records.
- Stay current with changes to telecommunications standards, technology, products, and industry best practices.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Current BICSI RCDD certification required.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in telecommunications, structured cabling, ICT infrastructure, or related design experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of structured cabling systems and telecommunications infrastructure.
- Experience designing copper and fiber optic cabling systems.
- Experience with backbone and horizontal cabling distribution.
- Knowledge of telecommunications rooms, equipment rooms, entrance facilities, pathways, cable tray, conduit, racks, cabinets, and related infrastructure.
- Strong understanding of ANSI/TIA standards, BICSI practices, NEC requirements, and applicable building codes.
- Ability to read and interpret architectural, engineering, and construction drawings.
- Experience preparing telecommunications drawings, specifications, scopes, and bid documents.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
- Ability to work effectively with project managers, estimators, engineers, contractors, field personnel, and customers.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with AutoCAD, Bluebeam, Visio, or similar design software.
- Experience with commercial construction projects.
- Experience with data centers, healthcare, education, industrial, government, or large commercial facilities.
- Experience with outside plant (OSP) infrastructure.
- Experience with wireless, DAS, security, audiovisual, or other low-voltage technology systems.
- Previous experience supporting estimating, proposals, or construction bidding.
- Additional BICSI certifications or industry credentials.

Physical and Work Requirements
- Ability to work in an office environment and travel to construction/project sites as needed.
- Ability to conduct site surveys and walk active construction sites.
- Ability to climb stairs, walk construction sites, and navigate areas where telecommunications infrastructure is being installed.
- Ability to work safely in accordance with company and project safety requirements.
- Ability to occasionally work extended hours based on project requirements.
