General Functions:

Perform a wide range of duties related to the underwriting of consumer bank-initiated residential real estate requests across multiple states. Render underwriting decisions within the bank's credit guidelines while ensuring compliance with federal lending regulations. Handle complex underwriting decisions requiring senior knowledge and problem-solving abilities.

Be responsible and accountable for risk by openly exchanging ideas, elevating concerns, and following policies and procedures. Always prioritize doing the right thing for customers and colleagues to ensure a positive customer experience. Operate within the bank's risk appetite by identifying, assessing, managing, monitoring, and reporting risks.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Analyze consumer credit reports for real estate applications to evaluate risk and make credit decisions across multiple states and regions.
  2. Maintain knowledge of updates to Fifth Third Consumer Lending policies and procedures to ensure consistent treatment of all applications.
  3. Analyze complex loan requests, including cash flow analysis of business and personal tax returns.
  4. Assist in coaching, training, and providing feedback to less experienced underwriters.
  5. Manage application pipeline to meet business objectives and service level agreements.
  6. Ensure completeness and accuracy of real estate credit applications.
  7. Verify HMDA purpose codes before final decision-making.
  8. Evaluate credit documents, including income calculations, financial statements, and trust reviews.
  9. Order and coordinate property reports, appraisals, and flood certifications.
  10. Communicate credit decisions in compliance with guidelines and regulations.
  11. Participate in efforts to enhance customer experience.
  12. Understand and participate in the credit exception process.
  13. Review applications and recommend decisions above assigned authority.
  14. Partner with the Mortgage Line of Business for simultaneous loan requests.
  15. Build relationships with internal customers across states.
  16. Host visits to promote understanding and interest in the department.
  17. Demonstrate teamwork by providing excellent customer service and being adaptable.
Supervisory Responsibilities:

Provide performance feedback, develop employees, and plan for succession. Recognize and reward accomplishments.

Knowledge and Skills Required:
  • College degree in Business or Finance or equivalent experience.
  • At least 5 years of consumer lending or related experience.
  • Knowledge of financial analysis techniques.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Decision-making and time management abilities.
  • Ability to interact with senior management and motivate others.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills.

Position: RCC Equity Underwriter II, Total Base Pay Range: $53,400 - $109,500 USD annually. Location: Virtual, Ohio.
