General Functions:

Perform a wide range of duties related to underwriting consumer bank-initiated residential real estate requests across multiple states. Render underwriting decisions within the bank's credit guidelines while ensuring compliance with federal lending regulations. Handle complex underwriting decisions requiring senior knowledge and problem-solving abilities.

Be responsible and accountable for risk management by sharing ideas, raising concerns, and following policies and procedures. Always aim to do the right thing for customers and colleagues, ensuring actions and behaviors promote a positive customer experience. Operate within the bank's risk appetite by identifying, assessing, managing, monitoring, and reporting risks.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Analyze consumer credit reports for real estate applications to evaluate risk and make credit decisions across multiple states and regions.
  2. Maintain in-depth knowledge of updates to Fifth Third's Consumer Lending policies and procedures.
  3. Analyze complex loan requests, including cash flow analysis of business and personal tax returns.
  4. Assist in coaching, training, and providing feedback to less experienced underwriters.
  5. Manage application pipelines to meet business objectives and service level agreements.
  6. Ensure the completeness and accuracy of real estate credit applications.
  7. Verify HMDA purpose codes before final decision-making.
  8. Evaluate credit documents, including income calculations and financial statements.
  9. Order and review property reports, appraisals, and flood certifications.
  10. Formulate and communicate credit decisions in compliance with guidelines and regulations.
  11. Participate in efforts to improve customer experience.
  12. Understand the credit exception process and identify opportunities for exceptions.
  13. Review applications over authority limits with managers or senior underwriters.
  14. Collaborate with the Mortgage Line of Business on loan requests.
  15. Build relationships with internal customers across states.
  16. Host visits to promote understanding and interest in the department.
  17. Demonstrate teamwork by providing excellent customer service and being adaptable.
Supervisory Responsibilities:

Provide performance feedback, develop employees, and plan for succession. Recognize achievements and foster a growth-oriented environment.

Knowledge and Skills Required:
  • College degree in Business or Finance or equivalent experience.
  • At least 5 years of industry experience in consumer lending or related fields.
  • Understanding of financial analysis techniques.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Experience interacting with senior management and motivating teams.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills.

Position: RCC Equity Underwriter, Total Base Pay Range: $53,400 - $109,500 USD annually. Location: Virtual, Ohio.
